Hi,
I am Udit from India(Jabalpur).

I bought the 'Acer Predator Helios 300 Core i5 7th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/128 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) G3-572 Gaming Laptop [https://goo.gl/36Gxvb]' last year on 29th Sep 2017. I am just a normal user and use this laptop for study and nothing else, the only game which I played was Fry Cry 3 and that too was in July and then uninstalled it.

Yesterday my harddisk(1 TB) disappeared, after restarting the laptop, it appeared then I checked the condition of it by running 'Acer Care Center' and it showed 'Status: Attention required' [https://goo.gl/JQmeuh].

I am very disappointed as the 1-year international warranty(that came with laptop) just expired last month. I was not expecting that HDD will give the error just in 1-year use. There was only around 80GB data in HDD which I moved to the external drive and now the drive is empty but still, the error is there. Not happy with the quality of HDD used by the Acer! :-1:

Now the warranty has expired and I need to replace the HDD at my own expense, very upset from Acer :(.

Do anyone has any idea about the cost of replacement of HDD?

Well, on searching about this error in Acer community, I found some threads in which users were asked to upload screenshots of results/scan of HDD by using various applications(CrystalDiskInfo, Seagate SeaTool, Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, HWiNFO64) which are as follow:

CrystalDiskInfo: https://goo.gl/mJubtK

Data Lifeguard Diagnostic:
On doing SMART check

After selecting on 'Repair'-

At last using HWiNFO64:

Not Good Acer :(:-1:

  • Make sure the problem is solved by simply disconnecting and reconnecting the hd in the notebook! To do this, disable fast start up in the power options and turn off the computer from the mains! Then open the hd compartment and unplug it:

A HDD failure is hardly the fault of Acer... what a silly statement.

Anyway, it really depends on how you used your machine, what your ambient temps were and how much you wrote/read from the drive.

Not saying HDDs dont go bad otherwise, they certainly do.

FYI: Acer uses Travelstar and Toshiba HDDs.. they are the best on the market.

egydiocoelho Thanks for the suggestions, I did the same, I removed the HDD and then placed it back properly. Here are the images of the HDD https://goo.gl/wCNV3f

But the error is still there :(

Can you test the hd on another notebook to see if the problem remains? Usually when there is some sector with problems, it may be the hd or cable SATA with defect!

If you have an external usb cd/dvd drive you could run spinrite or hdd regenerator (it's and old method but works) just to really confirm if the hdd is really the issue (not sure if these software's could be made bootable from a usb pen though) or like @egydiocoelho said if you have another computer either laptop or desktop  u could test it from there even from a hdd dock or usb enclosure i had really bad drives along the years some i managed to recover with hdd regenerator but some just died completely the other easier solution is warranty

I'm not sure but I think your OS is on HDD instead of SDD, the 'type' of sound you are talking about came when HDD is power on. (Again I'm not sure but this seems fine)
  • Can you record an audio or video noise?

Check on windows where your os installed if on the ssd or the hdd  technically it should be on the ssd if so and if your hdd makes loud repeatedly clicks noises thats the beginning of a failing hdd try to post a video like @egydiocoelho suggested and run some stress tests on it
