The Acer P241W Monitor never goes to sleep. even after the pc goes to sleep or into hibernate mode.  I am using the HDMI port on a Windows 10 PC. The monitor displays cable not connected when the PC is off, sleep or in hibernate mode.

This could be an issue with windows 10 update. This could also happen when there is some other application that is running in the background and preventing the display going into sleep mode.
    >>>I suggest you to run the Windows inbuilt troubleshooter and check.
Follow the method to run the troubleshooter.
    Press Windows + X key.
    Select Control panel.
In the search box, type Troubleshooter and then click Troubleshooting.
    Under System and Security,
Click on Power and Click on Next button.

    >>>From an admin CMD window, run
    powercfg /requests
    and
    powercfg /energy
The 1st one would tell you if there's anything keeping the system awake. The 2nd will generate an overall power settings report.

Also, run powercfg /getactivescheme to get the GUID and then run powercfg /query <guid>

    >>>Go to "Power options" and restoring plan defaults.
Pressing start and typing "Edit power plan" then selecting Edit power plan.
Then I clicked "Change advanced power settings".
There in the drop down you can see all of the power plans on your PC. Balanced, High performance, Power saver and I had an extra one which I use to edit things as I like.
The power plan which is active I have then selected restore plan defaults. Then I clicked apply. Remember you will lose your special settings if you had any.
Then I also selected the other profiles and restored plan defaults and pressed apply on all of them. (You might not have to do this, but I did just to make super duper sure.)
Then clicked OK to close the window.
Then I rebooted (you do have to reboot otherwise it does not seem to work).
Now my monitors go to sleep as stated by the plan (5 minutes).
    >Check for Geforce Experience, if installed, you can uninstall and check if the issue is fixed. Then download and install it again.

Thanks for the info but let me clarify.  When the monitor was connected via the DVI port.  The Acer P241W monitor goes into sleep/power save mode, when the PC is off, sleep or in hibernate mode. Also, the monitor will go into power save/sleep mode if not connected to the PC.  Using the HDMI port, however, there is a floating box that displays the message "cable not connected" when the PC is not connected or is off, or is sleep or in hibernate mode.

Power Save mode will not activate when using the HDMI port.  Only get floating box with message, " cable not connected "

If your monitor is displaying "No Input Signal," or "cable not connected" while  the monitor is working. In fact seeing that display message is a good sign that the monitor is working fine. This could be an issue with the video display resolution of your graphics card. Different port support different display resolution.

I have the same issue on an Acer V193 monitor, while using a DVI cable on a Windows 7 laptop. Monitor would never go to sleep, just stays on the "Cable Not Connected" floating box.
Are there any monitor menu settings that can fix that or is it faulty in some way?

I had this same problem with an HDMI to DVI cable. Turns out my cable was bad. I replaced the cable and my problem went away.
