Hello everybody, my laptop has a 17.3" 1600x900 resolution TN panel with pretty bad viewing angles. I'd like to replace it with a FullHD IPS one. Using the
Monitor Asset Manager program I was able to identify my screen's model number. I looked it up on
panelook.com and the specs I see seem to be correct, according to them my panel has a 30 pin eDP 1 lane connector. From what I found online (and on this website, specifically 3 threads:
1,
2,
3) I need a 2 lane eDP cable in order to get a 60Hz FullHD panel to work, so if my laptop already has a 2 lane cable I'm set and I only need to find a compatible panel, while if it has a 1 lane cable I need to change the cable too (and in this case, will my motherboard support the 2 lane cable? How can I find out?). My questions are:
- How did the people in the third thread I linked find out how many lanes that laptop's cable had?
- Since there are configurations of the Acer E5-771G that come with a FullHD screen, can I safely assume that my laptop has a 2 lane eDP cable, and/or the motherboard supports a 2 lane eDP cable?
- Let's imagine that everything goes well and I can replace my screen, how do I know if the new 17.3" screen will fit in my laptop's frame? Could it be thicker or too thin?
Here is the info that seems to be usually needed:
First 10 characters of my laptop's serial number: NXMNVET002
Screen model number: B173RTN01.1
