Hello to all. I'm new on here, and wonder if the Acer experts could give me some help.

I have an Aspire desktop M3910 with Windows 7 which has suddenly started giving me a problems. If I try to copy files, photos, etc Windows Explorer closes and restarts - resulting in the file not being copied to another location.

Would appreciate any ideas as to what it may be, and how to solve it. Many thanks.

    Hi woodbine66

Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F8 key repeatedly.
From the Windows advance option menu, use the arrow keys to select safe mode and press enter.
Let us know how it goes.

There is a good chance that Windows 7 has been corrupted over time.  If you have a system image, it would be the easiest route.
Next more difficult is a factory reset as shown in the video below.  Back up as much of your files as possible before doing factory reset.
The most difficult is Windows 7 reinstall, for which you will need the Windows 7 recovery disk. If you don't have one, it can be downloaded.

Is it only to one destination or one source? If is fails to the HDD does it work to a thumb drive? Let's try and pin it down more...

Many thanks to both of you for your replies.

Wis - yes, I was worried I might have to do something like that - but hopefully as a last resort.

billsey - No, unfortunately it looks like all destinations and sources. Just tried your suggestion with a memory stick. Tried copying files to and from it - same result - Windows Explorer restarts. Tried PDFs, Jpeg photos - seems like anything and everything. It's a right pain!

If I might make a suggestion from one Southerner to another.
To turn a big, fat migraine to a tiny, little chore: do this periodically.
Your Windows 7 needs rejuvenation from time to time.

OK, as suggested it's likely a Windows corruption problem. Google "SFC and DISM" and try them, they should pair to restore the uncorrupted files. No need at this point to do any sort of OS reset, we won't get into that unless the sfc/dism pair fail to fix it.

    UPDATE....................SOLVED

Thanks to everyone for your help, really appreciated. After some research, it seems that this is a known problem on Acer computers where MyWinLocker program suddenly starts causing problems, more than likely the program's shell extensions. It's a program I don't ever use anyway, so it was no problem to uninstall it, which solved the problem and I can now copy files properly.

I downloaded free Revo uninstall program which has a fantastic scan facility after it uninstalls programs to check for anything left behind. Used it to uninstall MyWinLocker and Shredder, restarted pc and all ok. I would now never uninstall a program without using Revo after seeing what can be left behind by the normal uninstall process.

Info on here about Acers and MyWinLocker problems
