we just purchased 2 aspire notebooks. they are replacing 2 older aspire notebooks. we purchased them directly from acer. for me it is very strange in that when I place my mobile android phone next to the touch-pad the screen goes black after a few seconds. the response to the placing of the mobile phone is consistent. nothing happens when it is placed to the right. the other acer we bought i used by a different developer. he has a different model phone (android). his acer does not respond at all to the same placement of his phone. tomorrow he will be at my office and i will try his acer by placing my phone on his notebook and he will try by placing his phone onto my acer. this will resolve whether the issue is the phone or the acer. I am just curious what part of the notebook system lies beneath that area?

Interference Hypothesis.  Check your model number again to search for the service manual.

I am sorry but you remind me of a joke about a person telling his doctor that it hurts everytime he pulled on his right ear. So the doctor told him just to stop doing that and it would hurt no more.

Yeah I got that. I am not placing my phone there currently but I have determined that it is a ceratin state of my phone that causes it to happen - not sure which exactly as I spend most of my days writing code and working with developers and clients. But the small desk I work from does give me little room for the phone etc i usually keep nearby. Thanks for levity. I still am wondering what is in the case just under that area.

Wis - nothing in the documentation mentions anything about the inside of the notebook (motherboard or supporting boards). Thanks for the suggestion.

Wis - I turned the "close the lid" power options to "do nothing" and the phone causes it to "do nothing" AT least I have answer as to what was beneath that area of the case and what most likely is causing it. Thanks for the link...

    It was my pleasure.
It appears that service manuals are proprietary.  We, "mere mortals", are permitted to peruse only the user manuals.  Nice you were able to able to figure it for yourself.

There is a magnet that triggers the laptop screen "closing" which puts laptop to sleep.
Your phones speaker having a magnet is triggering the "shut down" (i.e. sleep).

    It is normal.
