I ordered this laptop (G3-571-77QK) on Amazon on the July 27, 2018 and received it on the 30th of that month. I solely use this laptop for video games and Steam. I only opened up Internet Explorer once and don't even have Microsoft Office installed (I use another laptop for that)! My gaming is not even intense. My work restricts my playtime to 1 to 2 hours on each weekday and maybe two or three times the hours on each day of the weekend. I only have two games installed on this laptop: Total War Shogun 2 and Xcom 2. I played both games at the highest settings the laptop could handle and had some mods installed. If it matters, I stopped playing shogun 2 sometime in August and have played Xcom 2 nonstop since then; in addition, Xcom 2 is significantly more modded than Shogun 2. Whenever I play, I always make use of an external cooling fan because I knew the laptop suffered heating problems from the reviews I read. Whenever I am not playing, I store the the laptop back in its container to reduce its exposure to dust and other hazards. This laptop, to my knowledge, has never been damaged externally. There have been absolutely no problems or any indications of potential problems whatsoever with the laptop until the night of September 26.....
Last night, I attempted to boot up my laptop for another night of guerilla warfare with the alien regime. But, my laptop seemed to freeze on a black screen for several minutes. I held down the power button to shut it down and started it up again. This time, I got to the Predator logo loading screen before it froze midway into loading. I shut it down again, started it up again, and found myself at a Windows screen telling me that my PC did not start up properly. It then offered me a series of options to rectify the situation. I chose a few of them both under consul from a Predator Tech Support agent and out of my own volition.
1) I restarted the PC a few times but just got a frozen predator loading screen again. 2) Performed a system restore but got a frozen Windows loading screen that time. 3) Reset my PC twice (first preserving my files, the second deleting them) but got a frozen Windows loading screen both times. 4) Attempted a battery reset a number of times but still got a frozen screen.
No matter what I did, I got a frozen screen right at startup! I am frustrated that I only had this $1000 laptop for two months and it is already breaking down! And nevermind that I probably lost my Ironman save file for my Long War 2 campaign which I spent countless hours on!
I am considering a few options: 1) Sending my laptop back to Acer or Amazon as it is still under warranty 2) Going to a local laptop repair shop or 3) asking the internet for guidance so i can repair at home. The third option I am doing right now.
So, given all the information provided to you, what can I do to repair my laptop by myself at home without having to resort to sending it back to the manufacturer or paying money the repair shop? I will consider taking advantage of my warranty and of local experts, but just want to know what my other options are. Thank you all in advance!
