Can a CB3-111 19 Volt 2.37A power adapter be used to power a c720-2420 Chromebook which takes a 19 Volt 3.42A power adapter? Will it cause any damage trying to see if it will power the C720?

Hi ODB, It is not recommended to use different adaptor as two model has different Volt and it will damage the battery.

Assuming it has the same connector (3.5x1.1mm IIRC) you shouldn't have any trouble trying it out. Since it's a lower power supply (45W vs 65W I think) it might not work well for charging unless your Chromebook is powered off while connected to the charger. If the actual power usage on the C720 is under 45W it'll actually charge while running, but likely much slower than with the stock supply. Use it to verify your old supply is bad (assuming that's the issue you're dealing with), then purchase a replacement of the right size.
