Why can't I connect to Samsung smart TV

I tried to connect my ACER Chromebook CB515-HT to my TV via an HDMI cable and got nowhere. It was not ''sensed" by the TV as connected. I was using a HDMI to USB C adaptor and an HDMI cable that I know work. The same set up connects to an external monitor, no problem.
I selected the correct input for the cable connected
Any suggestions from the experts?

    1. Locate the HDMI port on the side of your Chromebook and the HDMI port you plan to use on your television.

    2. Connect your Chromebook to your television by inserting an HDMI cable of appropriate length into these ports.

Your Chromebook display may flicker as it detects and incorporates the television display.

    3. Change the input channel on your television to the HDMI port being used on your television.

HDMI input ports are typically numbered — for example, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, and so on.

The television will appear as an extension of your Chromebook desktop. If your Chromebook is set to mirror your display, the TV will look the same as your Chromebook desktop.

    4. Load the content you wish to stream. If you aren’t mirroring your display, use your touchpad to drag the content viewing window to the television display.

Your streaming content window appears on your television screen.

    5. Click the window’s full screen button to make the streaming content occupy the entire television screen.

Hi Jack22, My Chromebook does not have an HDMI port. As I explained above I used an HDMI - USB C adaptor. The adaptor works as I use it to connect to an external monitor.
It seems like the Chromebook isn't being recognised by the TV

please try doing a power wash and Hard Reset your chromebook and check. But before doing this take a backup of you data from the local drive

    1. Turn off your Chromebook.
    2. Press and hold the Esc key and refresh (F3) key and then press the power button to turn on the Chromebook.
    3. The Chromebook will boot to Developer Mode. Press Ctrl + D to turn off OS verification.
    4. When prompted to turn OS verification off, press Enter and the Chromebook will restart.
    5. At the OS verification is OFF screen, do not press the spacebar. The recovery process will start automatically after approximately 15 seconds.
    6. The restore process takes about 5 minutes. A progress bar appears at the top of the screen.
    7. The Chromebook restarts and prompts to re-enable verification. Press the spacebar.
    8. Press Enter to confirm that you wish to turn OS verification on.
    9. OS verification is back on and Chromebook reboots automatically.
    10. The "Welcome!" screen will be displayed and you can complete the on screen instructions.

Your Chromebook is now set to factory default settings.

    Hard reset your Chromebook

For most Chromebooks, follow the steps below:

    1.    Turn off your Chromebook.

    2.    Press Refresh  + Power

Thanks Jack22 but isn't there a less destructive process I can follow before I get to the last resort
