Hello,

Last week I had a new computer built and also received the Acer Predator XB272 monitor as a gift which was priced around $550. I picked it up New from Best Buy. (27" Full HD (1920x1080) NVIDIA G-SYNC TN Monitor, Display Port & HDMI Port, 240Hz)

Here are some concerns:

1) Issue - Monitor Going Solid White when Gsync is On
When I first turned it on, the screen was fine - colors/black were uniformed.
I played a videogame (Fortnite) on 240hz with Gsync for 3 hours.
I switched to another videogame (Vindictus) and then the monitor immediately went solid white.
This affects the entire monitor, not just the game/program regardless of tabbing out the monitor continues to stays white, yet I can still hear audio. I had to keep powering On and Off the monitor and try to quickly close the game before it turns white within a second or two again. This happened frequently, and only with Gsync on. If Gsync is off, it does not go solid white. I used the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor, then switched to a higher quality VESA certified DisplayPort 1.2 cable and it still does this. Another time that it would go Solid White is when I opened the NVIDIA GeForce Experience program, again with Gsync on and I had to power on and off, it would display normally upon powering on but then go Solid White within 2 seconds so I had to exit the program quickly. It would also do this when I tried opening Forza Horizon 4 Demo, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. I believe it is the monitor that is the problem and not my computer because when it turns white - I have unplugged the DisplayPort cable from my tower and it still stays solid white.

2) Issue - As I stated above, the first time I ever turned on the monitor the screen color was uniformed. However, within the first two days, a noticeable dark circle with a glowing ring around it appeared. See pictures.

As you can see, this is most noticeable when viewed from the side. I did not think it would be an issue since I sit in front of the monitor. However, in dark backgrounds it is quite noticeable.

Is this common in TN panels (this is my first, I came from IPS)? Is my monitor defective and should I return/exchange it? Or.. if I keep the monitor, is there a risk of it growing worse/giving more problems in the future?

3) Issue - A few other minor issues.

One, There is a strong small light at the upper left of the monitor.

Second, a strong lightbleed(?) at the top most noticeable in dark scenes. You can sort of see it from the above pictures I have posted but the photos do not show it very well. However, these are minor issues to me and do not bother me much.

So my question is:
May anyone explain what is going on with the monitor, why is there a dark circle with glowing outer ring and why does it keep going Solid White with Gsync on? Would you recommend me to exchange this monitor? Or if this is common in TN, should I just keep it instead of risk exchanging it for another that could carry worse issues (dead pixels, etc)? I feel bad due to this being a $550 gift from a friend and need to make a decision before Best Buy's 15-day Return/Exchange period. She bought me the last one in stock from the local store, and the customer service representative said that I will need to return it back to the store, then have my friend re-purchase from online and wait for it to ship. If the next one is also defective we will have to repeat the process.

Thank you.

Not sure how to edit or update my post, but I am going to exchange the monitor. The dark circle became much stronger and is now noticeable even on white backgrounds.

I am still curious for the technical answer as to why the monitor does this (i.e failing capacitors or heat?), if anyone can enlighten me that would be great! Otherwise, thread is closed. Thanks.

Update: I have exchanged this monitor for another of the same exact model (XB272), however... it is doing the same thing.

These images are when I first received the newly exchanged 2nd monitor on September 18, 2018:

Within 4 days (Sept 22nd now), the dark circle appears and grows darker... I am afraid it will turn out like the 1st one I had:

Unfortunately, my local Best Buy no longer carries this model in stores and I am unable to drive farther out to other Best Buys. I will be returning this monitor because what if the 3rd one will do the same thing, and it is inconvenient for me to get time and transportation at this time.

Extra info: The Manufacturer date for these two monitors is July 2018.

I have found other people with this similar issue on their Acer, Asus, and Dell monitors. They call it the "Buttcheek Effect".

For anyone interested in more information or is having the same issue and stumbled upon this thread, here are some links:

    1) https://www.overclock.net/forum/44-monitors-displays/1577511-dell-s2716dg-1440-144-hz-g-sync-owners-thread-297.html

    3) https://hardforum.com/threads/asus-vg278h-the-weirdest-backlight-bleeding-i-ever-saw.1653278

In the 3rd link, these posts were from 2011 and if you scroll down on the 1st page to the 3rd from last post, someone also posted a "Before" and "After" photo and said it was on their Third monitor.

Like mine, other people have reported that this issue occurs within 3-4 days of using the monitor.
A few also reported that the problem faded away with their screens returning to normal. I have decided to hold onto the monitor for a little longer to see if mine will "fix" itself as well.

I recently purchased a 240Hz Acer Predator 24.5' and does the white screen thing too. Have you found out a way to fix this? I had returned my monitor and exchanged it for another one and still happens. I was about to just return it and buy a different one until I found this post, so if you found an answer to this problems please reply back.
