My laptop, an Acer Aspire A715-71G-554N has a 1 tb hdd, but it is able to be upgraded to a secondary 500gb ssd. What I want to know is if it's possible to remove the initial hdd, replace it with the SSD, and then reinstall that hdd as secondary storage?

After installing the SSD, download Minitool partition wizard free program, run it as admin, use migrate feature( at the top), after the completion of migration, remove the HDD and try to boot with only the SSD, after confirming everything is fine, you may delete the OS from the HDD and use it for storage.
