One of my USB slot does not accept anything ecxept USB Flash Drive since a disk clone.

Hi there.
I added an ssd m.2 slot (samsung 970 evo) in my computer  Aspire 5 (A517-51G-55G9), I did a disk clone from my HDD et my SSD ( I tried a frech intal too) and when I boot from the SSD one of my usb slot does not accept anything except USB Falsh Drive. I can't put anything else like a usb unifying logiech for my mouse, or any usb hub. the computer does not reconize them.
If I boot from the HDD it work, but not from the SSD.
I tried to uninstal the usb slot et reboot the computer , but it didnot work.

Does anyone have a hint on what I could do to solve this.

    Try uninstalling the Samsung Magician software and then restart your computer.

    The Samsung Magician software is not on my computer. I did not use it to clone my disk or for anything else. Anyway I did a fresh/clean instal on the SSD.

    I just noticed that even some usb flash drive does not work on the usb slot I have problem with.
    But if I boot on the HDD it still work fine, so it is a softwar issue

    I guess you can try updating the BIOS.

    You may have to create a USB recovery drive using Acer Care Center and then use the USB recovery drive to install Windows on your SSD.  (Backup your important personal files first).

    You can also try your USB drives with a different computer to make sure that your USB drives aren't the problem.

    THe BIOS is already up to date with the last one.

    Everything is on a backup, Like I said I already did a fresh instal of win 10. I tried too with the USB recovery drive and it's the same thing.

    I tried my USB unifying logitech on orther computer and it work fine. My computer have 3 usb slot and it work on 2 of them only. If I boot on the HDD it work on everyone of them. So my USB device is not the problem (tried with everything that does not work on this USB slot on other slot orother computer)

    The original recovery media from acer is no longer available so I can't try.

    The samsung software only clone samsung to samsung. Since my original HDD is a western digital one I can't use it.

    I'm hesitant to tell you to install drivers from Acer's website as they are older drivers.  I assume you have Windows 10 1803.

    The only thing I can suggest is to install the original Acer OEM factory Windows 10 software so you can rule out a hardware problem.

    If you want to try the drivers below you can but in some cases they might be older drivers than what you have.

    Yes I have Windows 10 1803, and every one of my driver from https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers is up to date. anyway after I instal them windows update generaly instal a new one after.

    I did a sfc/ scannow and everything is fine

  • When you a mouse or other device on that usb port, does any problem driver appear in the device manager?

    yeah  if I put some device in this USB port I got a message in the device manager. It said USB not reconize  (sorry my windows is in french). I tried uninstal and reboot, tried desactivate and activate. Nothing work.
    But if im on the HDD instead of the SSD  it is working fine.

    When booting Windows from your SSD, please go to Windows Disk Management and tell me if you have an EFI System partition on your SSD.

  • Try this: In the device manager, click uninstall and then select delete driver and reboot!

    Try this: In the device manager, click uninstall and then select delete driver and reboot!

    I already did that, I did it again. I uninstaled everythind in the section of the USB controller. And it does not work.
    I still got the same error from the same USB slot

    Try a clean install of Windows 10 1703.  I'm assuming your computer originally came pre-installed with Windows 10 1703 based on driver dates on Acer's website.  Download the iso from link below.  When you install Windows, make sure you do a custom install and delete all of your partitions first.....so it's a clean install.  After you delete your partitions on your SSD, then click on the SSD (unallocated space) and just click "Next"

    Create the USB flash drive installation media with rufus.  Use rufus settings:  GPT, UEFI (non-CSM), FAT32

    After you install Windows 10 1703, don't connect to internet.  Install all of the drivers from Acer's website (download them in advance).
    After you install of the drivers from Acer's website, then you can connect to internet.

    And then sit back and let Windows Update automatically update your computer to  Windows 10 1803.

    Also try installing the Acer Quick Access application which can be found on the driver website.

    Like I said earlier, I already did a clean instal. I downloaded the iso from microsoft. I just did not use rufus. I used a  usb flash Drive bootable with the iso of windows 10 from microsoft.

    Answer me, are you a cloned windows? If so, you have disabled windows updates at the time of cloning! Or you installed windows 10 using a microsoft iso!

    First I cloned my disk, but I had some problem so I did a clean instal after that, So now I have a clean instal and windows update work fine.

    Before you try to install version 1703, download the driverbooster or driverpack and check that updating the drivers solves the problem!

  • I think you should try cloning again, but this time pause the updates from windows:

    Does ssd have less disk space than hd? If so, use macrium reflect! Also try using the migrate from minitool partition!
