Hello,

I purchased a "NEW" ACER Laptop (from a shop labeled as a return with some discount).

I just discovered that it's BIOS is locked and I kind of seem out of luck.

I contacted the GERMAN ACER Support which said they can fix it for me for a price and I have to send it in.

Sending the laptop back at this stage is not an option since I need it this weekend and I am looking for a solution.

I tried the "BIOS" PWND unlock page where you enter your code, but the one supplied unfortunately does not work.

This laptop seems to have a 10 digit return code. All the "unlock sites"  + ebay offer a unlock code for a 8 digit version.

Does anyone know if someone is supplying the unlock codes for a 10 digit version, if I can purchase it anywhere or some sort of solution which doesn't involve sending in an otherwise working laptop?

The BIOS being locked in it's self is not a huge deal ( I managed to install Win 10 - actually am writing from it atm and its awesome), but I still have an uneasy feeling

because it is locked.

Thank you for your help,

To reset the password, unplug the unit, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30 minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings. If it fails, then try to remove the battery for at least one hour.

    Hello,

Thank you for the Idea, but shouldn't new laptops have a EEPROM that is not reliant on the CMOS battery for power?
