Hi everyone,

I brought a H277HU monitor which has Type C connector. But when I tried to connect it with my Switch Alpha 12 with only single USB Type C cable which came with H277HU. I found that SW12 will be charging and my H277HU can display as monitor.
However, SW12 will prompt sound and H277HU will immediately flicker, then after few seconds, I heard the alarm from SW12 which is similar to connecting new USB device. And all of my USB devices will reconnect to SW12 again.
This happens on every 1 to 2 miniutes.
When I connect the power adapter to SW12, the above situation will not happen at all. Although the problem will go but both SW12 and H277HU were designed to use 1 single cable to connect with each other.
I am not sure if anyone knows how to fix it? Thanks.

    Sorry, your SA12's type C port seems to be a first generation 3.1 port. It's an ordinary USB 3.0 port but has a connector with the type C form factor. Accordingly, the SA12's port is probably repeatedly trying  to identify the monitor but it's not directly supported by the port and only flickers during the port's identification step. Jack E/NJ

    According to Acer website, the port is a USB3.1 type c port. So it should work fine for this function while mine can't.
    Besides, as I mentioned, once I plugged the power adapter to SA12 with Type C connecting to H277HU, everything works fine.
    So I wonder whether the problem is at my SA12 port or at my H277HU monitor.

    Yes, but it's a USB3.1 Gen1 type C port. Not a USB3.1 Gen2 type C port.
    USB 3.1 Gen 1 type C port is also known as a USB3.0 port but with a type C instead of a normal type A USB form factor.

    it is quite strange since the usb c on h277hu is also usb 3.1 gen 1 while acer website showed it was designed to do it all with one port

    h277hu type C port is an output port, not input. You cannot directly connect the SA12's type C output port to the h277hu's type C output port. The only input ports on the h277hu are HDMI and DisplayPort. Thus you need Type-C output-to-HDMI  or DisplayPort input adapter . Jack E/NJ

    unless the website had something wrong but it stated that
    //
    The USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C2 port enhances your productivity with ultrafast data-transfer speeds of up to 5 Gb/s and quick mobile device charging. What’s more, the port can support audio inputs and video inputs of up to WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution

    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/h7
    //
    which clearly said the port can support video inputs.
    so that the type c on h277hu should be an input port as well

    Please read the fine print. "2. Specifications vary depending on region and model. "  There are at least four different models with different input-only specs. The two most popular are HDMI and DP inputs only. Either check your user manual or guide that came with the monitor or with the monitor vendor or this link https://www.acer.com/ac/zh/HK/content/support   to confirm the model you have in your region. How did you confirm this? Vendor? User guide? ACER HK?  Jack E/NJ

    refer to my user guide that came with my h277hu
    btw i also mentioned that the type c on both laptop and monitor can work without any problem if i plug in the power adapter
    i also have another laptop HP elitebook 830 which also has type c, and when i connect the laptop with h277hu will not have such issue but windows.will only warn me that the charge speed is low.

    If this and your previous statements mean that everything works OK when plugged in, but not OK on the battery alone, then there seems to be no problem. The SA12's battery is only a 2-cell 35wh battery. The elitebook's battery is a much larger capacity 3-cell 50wh  battery. Trying to operate this particular monitor on the SA12's battery alone seems to be overtaxing the battery and not advisable. Jack E/NJ

    i don't think there is no problem since the h277hu has stand alone power source which came from its own adapter which means h277hu did not obtain any power from SA12 nor elitebook, no matter what were the battery sizes

    The h277hu may have its own power supply to mainly power the screen. But the SA12's C port still needs power to generate video/audio preamp signals the monitor can use.  My own SA12 needs to be plugged in when using a USB2HDMI adapter to a TV. Jack E/NJ

    my SA12 does not need to be plugged when using usb2hdmi to connect TV or H277HU.
    if your SA12 needs to pbe plugged, then it should be some problem on your SA12.

    Or my adapter and cables. I don't feel my own SA12 has a driver or hardware problem. If you feel otherwise about your own SA12, then you should arrange for a warranty repair or vendor exhange or refund if recently purchased. Jack E/NJ
