Predator Helious 300 extreme fps drop, cpu lowers clockspeed

RubberpawRubberpaw Posts: 4Member New User
So i just bought a Helious 300.
i5 8300h
1060 6gb
8gb ddr4
512nvme ssd

The issue is, that when gaming, the cpu randomly lowers its clock speed to 800mhz, this is regardless of the temperature. I have tryed stock voltage, lower it by 0.115v and everything it up to date, and set to performance mode. There is NO thermal throttling. It is plugged in at all times. This really ruines gaming for me, since i am unable to play anything pvp related or competitive. The laptop is less than a month old.

A video i recorded a few minutes, describes the issue.

Hope anyone can help me

Open Control Panel. Double check Power plan edit options. Make sure everything is set for high performance even unplugged to see what happens. Jack E/NJ

Just a late update. All these issues, somehow, have to do with thermals. I redid the thermal paste with Thermal Grizzly, lowered the cpu voltage with -0.128v and put a cooling pad under it. This has made it able to run stable at 3.8ghz turbo boost, for as long as i want it to. But i also had to do A LOT of tweeking in ThrottleStop. I had to disable Speedstep and Speed Shiftm lock the cores at the boost speed and so on. But in the end, i have a stable clock. The temperatures are still in the high end. When gaming, the cpu hits around 85 - 98 celcius, depending on the game, and the gpu hits around 93c. This is very high for a 1060 6gb, but i guess it is becuase the cooling solution is all connected, so they share the "heat" generated from both cpu and gpu, and since i applyed new themal paste, more of the heat generated from the cpu, is transfered to the gpu - but im not sure. I have redone the paste several times, with the same result. I don't think i am ever going to buy an Acer laptop (or product) after this experience.

If it is under warranty, you should contact a local Acer service center and ask for a replacement. If its out of warranty, Jesus bless your wallet! Amen

@Rubberpaw the cpu was not made to run at turbo boost speed to achieve turbo boost it will only use one core and games will never use one core only so achieving turbo boost in games its pretty much impossible in fact most of games dont even use much cpu and they mostly use all cores and all cores used its the stock speed only seems to me seems you messed up TS settings badly u never should lock cpu on turbo boost and there are pre made stable TS confs available for almost all latest cpus on H300 group and you gpu shouldnt go over 80 (even 80 might be already throttling in some cases) after that its starts to throttle seems the repaste you have done either u used too much paste or too less just a thin layer to cover the diodes with the grizzly applicator is enough you temps should be on 60/70 gpu and 70/80 cpu on high demanding task/games my G3-572 dropped 20+ after i repasted with kryonaut optimized windows and undervolted and i even overclocked the gpu and my temps with ultra on all games are cpu 70/75 gpu 60/65 the only game that jumped on higher temps so far its MHW (on ultra) but i lowered the settings and all back to normal
