Hi everyone i wanted some help on which memory to buy to upgrade my predator helios 300 i know it says it only supports 16gb (the motherboard might support more not sure as all my previous acer suppoted more than what stated) so i wanted to buy maybe only one 16gb dimm and leave the other free or 2 x 8gb what is the best memory to get and what brand i always used kingston on my acer and all other laptops/desktops but as this is a gaming laptop there might be even better/faster memory than kingston as my 8gb with firefox, steam, bizzard and some other apps some games tend either to crash or say low memory if i close everything and use just one at once works fine so seems to me it's a memory issue 8gb it's not enough minimum 16 to start in my view.

Any advice on what to get i would be appreciated :)

One most important thing... 16 GB is pretty more than enough for all desktop games and applications. Unless you are running server systems or multiple virtual machines (like I do) you won't need more than 16. I can comfortably run a VM plus other tasks outside of VM, all at the same time, very comfortably on this system. Just make sure to optimize your system well.

One program I can recommend is Tune Up Utilities... this program allows to disable and enable programs/services on the fly without user even noticing. For example, VMware comes with a bunch of services that are started on system startup. I have VMWare specific services disabled. But when I start the VMware application, it auto turns on the necessary services. The start up time of application might be hindered by a few "unnoticeable" seconds, but it is worth it cos it keep most as-needed services off. This too helps achieve more productivity with the system resources.

See the below screenshot. The services I marked as disabled are turned on as needed only when I launch the application, and turned off within a few minutes of me stopping using that app. Now notice the bars on the left side - system load points are reduced by as much as 50% :-) That's a significant gain in terms of performance (since all these otherwise active services are now off).

Running on vmware ? well to tell the truth i hate windows 10 personally 7 and xp are much better in my view so ill think in either keeping 10 and run vmware or something else :) i have to reset the os anyway as captcha on firefox isn't working after the july update messed up everything so anytime i have to login with captcha somewhere have to use either chrome IE or any other (edge is the worst browser i had ever seen) and it's annoying as i have everything saves on my FF account
In that case, go to 7. I installed 7 on my g3-572 for some amazing performance improvements. Do not go to Linux or such though cos of limited driver support, to my knowledge.

Plus... one more thing... You could install linux onto a USB stick and use it from there to ensure you have all the needed drivers before installing it to your hard disk.

Coming to FF, try using Waterfox; it is built out of the forked version of Firefox before they updated the underlying architecture. It is more stable too.

I'd like to add that you shouldn't get worked up over specific brands of RAM.

Changing stock ram to another "more expensive brand" is a complete waste of money.

ALL ram card chips are made by either Samsung, Hynix or Micron.

Brand names such as G skill, Kingston, Crucial etc all use chips from one of those manufacturers.

The brand name manufacturers basically buy the chips, set the PCB and bin the RAM.

Now overclocking performance *can* be effected by PCB but on a laptop the performance difference would be negligible.

So in short... 16gb RAM is plenty powerful enough and you wont see any difference on DDR4 performance between a 140$ set of Kingston and a 200$ set of G skill.

Also... when upgrading ram if you currently have a single 16gb card it will not perform (slightly) as well as 8gb X 2 due to the lack of dual channel functionality.

If you plan to upgrade to 32gb in the future then adding a 16gb card now is the way to go, but if you plan on staying at 16gb then I'd suggest dual 8gb sticks.
    Very good explanation :)

    Hi,
You can upgrade up to 32GB for your model, PC4-17000 and PC4-19200 modules will work.

I would add even the PC4-21300 (2666Mhz) 16GB (X2)that are working flawlessy in dual channel in my helios 300 G3-572!(even if officially, the max supported frequency  is 2400Mhz!)

Thanks for all the help i never used crucial before always used kingston and never had issues so im guessing i will stick with it :p

If I can give you a suggestion, you could give a try to the 16gb Crucial 2666Mhz  that has the same chip of the Kingston (Micron) and maybe could be less expensive even if it has a CL19 instead of 15 of the Kingston one.

So just to clarify this is what i will be looking at:

    16GB Kingston HyperX Impact 2666MHz DDR4 PC4-21300 CL15 1.2V SO-DIMM

Excuse me but right now you have got installed a single 8Gb 2666 module, right? so you need to buy 2x 16 Gb  2666 Mhz to reach the max supported capacity , well, it will be not that cheap, be prepared to spend at least 300$!
