I updated my ram to 8gb on my 5251 and now the hdd wont show up

yes ive did everything i can think of and i camt get it to reconize the hard drive i even changed the hdd

    Step one is to make sure that your PC supports 8G. If not, it could be that the HDD controller occupies that upper 4G space.....so first read the manual to make sure it does support 8G.

     

    After that, I'd say first try replacing with the old memory and make sure it works there. If it does, then you may need to configure your HDD differently with respect to the memory area it uses, etc, etc...

     

    Is your PC a 64-bit PC???? 32-bits only supports up to 4G. You need 64-bit registers to directly address more than 4G. i.e. 2^32 = 4G.

     

    Now, I don't know if the OS can handle higher memory through some partitioning scheme or not....but that's dependent on the OS.
