I installed windows 7 on my G3-572 and had to set my touchpad to basic in Bios to be recognized by the OS. But this meant I had to forgo basics like scrolling and such.
Worst, the touchpad wasn't even showing up in my device manager.
And then, I tried another way... by force installing Synaptics touchpad drivers - Touchpad_Synaptics_17.0.6.21_W7x64_A. This added the device, and made it show up under devices. And once this was done, I was able to open touchpad properties and set up all needed functions like 2 finger, 3 finger and various other things.
I first tried touchpad_ELANTECH_11.6.24.209_W7x64_A thinking it was elantech, and then installed synaptics without uninstalling elantech (if that helps).
Note: You can google these files freely with the names mentioned about and get them for whatever OS you are installing.
