Hi there. Everything in my life is hitting the fan, and this seems to be the last nail in the coffin, so I'm hoping someone can help. I decided to purchase an Aspire E5-774-582T about six months ago. I was hoping, since I paid a lot of money, to utilize it for the next five years. After a couple months of purchasing it, I had a problem where it would shut down intermittently. Apparently after researching this was a common problem, a bracket had to be removed by the store I purchased it from, and it stopped shutting down intermittently.

Anyways, after a few months, and perhaps due to moisture in my room, I started to notice that on the right side of the computer the ports were rusted. Oh well, I thought.. everything was working fine. Next problem.. about a month ago, the ac adapter frayed at the end, so I wasn't able to charge it properly. I bought a stock AC adapter that worked for a while. However, yesterday, my computer would not get any charging light and wouldn't turn on. At first I thought it was the AC Adapter, but then I took it to a repair technician and he said that the motherboard is not powering and not getting any power. This is odd to me, because the ports rusted months ago, and it has been in a dry climate and hasn't gotten wet.

So, I'm at a point where I need to start doing damage assessment, and figure out what to do, trying to save as much money as possible. My question is, then, what do I do, at this point? Would ACER repair the computer if there is rust? Would it be incredibly expensive and even possible to replace the motherboard (I know computer repair, and could do it myself). Should I just buy a new computer? Don't want to throw away this expensive computer, and feel like an ***** or that the universe cursed me. Secondly, I need this computer for school, so if I can get it repaired, what would I do in the spare time without a computer if I need one?

Thanks for reading, and hope someone can help.

  • Hello! The hardware warranty is one year (at least here in Brazil it is so)! According to its description and the defects presented, you have every right to trigger the hardware warranty, including with regard to the battery charger! I am not an Acer employee and I do not even speak for the manufacturer, but you should rather trigger the warranty!
However you can check if doing a power reset, it reconnects! To do this, turn the notebook around and find a battery-shaped symbol and press that pin for 10 seconds! Doing this leave the notebook turned off for 5 minutes and then turn it on!

If you remove the ram cover below the reset oin hole, there is a circle type opening and a black button.  Do you hane any idea what its for??

You re in a tough position as so am I.  My E5-575 isnt charging either with or without the battery connected. I have done the battery reset 20 times with the battery plugged in and w/o (why not LoL). I power cycled it too by holding the power button down for 30secs  1 minute followed by 2 minutes.  I even removed the CMOS batteey LoL.

So what else is there to do ?  Use a meter and see what tue volts are on the mother board where the connector connects to the MOBO from the power jack.  For me there was 19.4 volts so there is power.

Next, at the  battery connecter plug on the MOBO, while the power is plugged in, I was getting 120-13x bolts so i m assuming thats what it should be to charge the battery.  Without the power plugged in and power cycled (I let the laptop sit for 2 hours), the volts were around 20ish with just the battery plugged in.

So yeah, thats my story with my POS. All my problems happened after 1.1years LoL  $500 per year to own an Acer LoL

LoL  Nope, from other threads, its a safety switch. The black button I am speaking of is visible when you remove the ram cover.  The battery reset button (the actual button) is not visible unless you take the entire bottom cover.

My POS E5 575 is still down and out.  Charging is not the issue and who knows what is friend on the board.  Assembly fall of 2016 LoL Not even two years old LoL.
  • Can you tap a photo of your button so I can see? @VegasWhoa

Well. Have had this laptop for 8 months. Have sunk a hundred dollars and dozens of hours trying to fix ridiculous problems, like the power adapter randomly splitting at the end, or intermittent turn offs because the bracket wasn't attached. Here is someone else with that same problem...
    https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/469114/acer-e5-575g-53vg-randomly-shuts-off-while-on-battery

So, I spent EVEN MORE money, and sent it into Acer. They told me that it is liquid damage, and they can't even try to repair it.. I will be honest with everyone. I did not spill any liquid on my device. Rust appeared on the USB and HDMI all of a sudden a few months ago, and then again, one day it simply decided to stop turning, on.. I told them there was rust on the side, and that seemed to be the problem. Why would they get me to send it back if they were just going to tell me there is, 'liquid damage'? WTF.

Getting ACER to 'replace' the unit cost more than the unit was to buy it and buying a mainboard also.

What the hell can I do now? I've wasted atleast 900 dollars on this unit this year.. Can I take out any of the parts and build a new laptop?

Extremely, extremely frustrated with Acer, and will never buy one of their products ever again. This company should be charged with criminal negligence.
  • Make sure to put a little more pressure on that button by adding some layers of tape, the notebook will turn on again! This button prevents the notebook from turning on when the lower case is open or misfed! Sometimes putting on a little more pressure the notebook will turn on again!
