Triton 700 thunderbolt port and egpu question

Hello,

i was wondering one thing: how many pipelines does the triton 700 thunderbolt port have? I ask because i am thinking of getting an egpu in the future and i want to know if i would get full performance by just connecting the egpu to the laptop or if i would need necessarily an external monitor to use it (two pipelines verus 4 pipelines).

Acer product page doesn't explain.

Is there a way or test to know how many pipelines my thunderbolt port has? Thanks.

Second question: any egpu advice? i don't really think about upgrading it right now, but in the next years i could need it.

Thanks for the answers.

    Of course.

This is the only port that has "4x" in bandwidth.
Yes that's the TB3 @ 4x. You can see hardware ID and compare with device manager.

Hmm... 2 means that to get the full power of an eventual EGPU i would necessarily need to connect  the egpu to an external monitor and not use the laptop one, right?

Do you know if i can check how many pipelines do i have? Perhaps a software tool or benchmark?

Not sure and I was just guessing since it's a laptop and the power efficient thunderbolt ports are usually 2.
But I believe HWinfo should show you.
    See picture for reference location.

Ok, i have one last question however...  how do i know which port is the one i need to check? (USB C with thunderbolt capability)?

I checked all of them ,each of them had bandwidth of 1, except one that had 4... but i didn't notice calling them "USB A USB A and then USB C Thunderbolt".

    Am i missing something?

Ahh that's a good thing lol as I dont believe any USB port available today have 4 lanes 😋
(I believe your TB port is 4 lane)

    FYI 8 GB/s transfer speed at x4 = 32gb pcie transfer speed.

Also I'd like to add that you will not get as great a benefit as for example you had used a nvme m.2 key m adapter to a egpu. Although the transfer speeds are rated the same, thunderbolt 3 has multiple purposes and isnt designed solely for the purpose of an egpu.

So you will have a very slight bottleneck but until TB3 4.0 is released this is the best solution for egpu via TB available today.

Thanks. I don't think i will buy an EGPU soon... after all i do have a 1080 on this laptop.

But maybe when there are 1280s out there i will think about it. Maybe.

    Thanks for the answers ^^

Always nice to have expandable possibilities. No problem brother.
