So I got my new Predator 17 G9-793-79V5 and it had the dreaded two 128GB M.2 SSD's in RAID.
I played some games and was having a good time when I realized, oh my, that drive is getting pretty full.
I've read every single post on these forums about upgrading it and thought I had it all figured out for the most part. I jumped on Amazon, ordered a Samsung EVO 970 PRO 512GB NVMe stick and then created a restore USB drive using the Acer Care Center.
When the NVMe stick came, I popped out both 128GB M.2's and put the 512GB EVO in the bottom slot.
Plugged in my USB Recovery drive and powered on. Went through the process of restoring and everything seemed to be going smooth.
Sure, the new EVO may not show up in Intel Rapid Storage Technology at all, but in disk management, it was there and although it still said RAID, it seemed to be working.
BIOS is still showing RAID, but hey, everything seems to be working smoothly.
I install World of Warcraft and begin to play and then uh oh, blue screen after blue screen. I make sure all my drivers are up to date and they are. More blue screen of death.
I uninstall NVidia GeForce Experience and all Nvidia drivers, restart and re-download them. I run the game checker for corrupt game files on WOW, everything is fine. Fire it up, the same thing.
I uninstall WOW, Install Steam and PubG, go to load the game and blue screen.
I uninstall Steam, Install World of Warships, and I actually get to play for a match and a half before again, blue screen and PC reboot.

System Thread Exception Not Handled
System Service Exception

I've now removed the EVO and re-installed the two M.2's just so I have a computer I can use, but now I am wondering... How can I wipe the NVMe drive? And, could I get another to run in RAID or would it not work because only one slot is NVMe?

  • You can check whether in the ahci mode the problem occurs or check if there is any firmware update for ssd! Try to do an installation of the operating system instead of using the recovery drive!

I was planning to do the same! Glad i read your post.

My plan was to clone the drives (two 128gb raid 0) to an external hard drive or the 1tb HDD in the second bay then remove the two 128gb's and add a brand new m.2 1TB NVMe and add the clone there since that includes the OS. i was just curious if the whole raid thing would complicate cloning coming from raid 0 two ssd's vs a brand new one piece ssd m.2.

thoughts? let me know if you come up with other ways or easier ways on your part.

  • I think possible solution would be cloning! You can use the Migrate feature of the minitool partition!
