Windows 1803 Update compatibility with E1-772G

Hi all, here's hoping someone might have an answer for this one. The 4 yr old E1-772G sporting a Quad core i7 cpu, 8Gb ram, dedicated graphics chip and a recent upgrade from the std hdd to a Hybrid mechanical hdd/ssd has now been rendered almost obsolete by something as simple as a compatibility issue with a Windows update. Since the Fall creators update it's been an issue and now with the 1803 April 2018 update it continues. I cannot update anything and the Acer support website suggests the board has not been tested and no drivers are forthcoming. Bios, system drivers, graphics drivers are all as up to date as possible....anyone out there have any idea how to get past this. PS. I even tried booting from an alternative HDD with the new 1803 windows on it, no luck. Sadness prevails at the moment as I was not keen on replacing the machine, its still way more than capable for its daily tasks.

Each new rapid-fire major Win10 update is a crapshoot on whether or not relatively new machines will choke on it. 1803 is almost like a new Windows version --- probably would be called Win15 by now under the old way of naming Win7, Win8.x & the first Win10 release. Even if you can get Win14 or Win15 to work ---- oops I mean 1709 or 1803 --- there's no guarantee the next major update (1812?) won't cause more issues.

Get past 1803? 3 options seem to be available.
(1) Buy a brand new 2018 machine with factory-installed 1803 that's guaranteed to work with 1803 and maybe even its maintenance updates till Nov 2019.
(2) Hold your breath waiting for some maintenance updates that your E1 will like
(3) Keep your current Win10 configuration alongside Linux

I chose the last option because it's easier to do now than it ever was --- even a year or so ago. I migrated all my important Win10 work and files to a Cinnamon-flavored LinuxMint partition in a few days. The Mint GUI was set up with the look, feel & operation of Win7, the last decent Win version in my opinion, only much faster. I rarely use Win10 anymore except mainly to retrievey old stuff left behind in the first migration. Jack E/NJ

Thanks. I'm partial to Mint myself and agree that Linux is a great solution for many reasons. Unfortunately with this machine running a retail pos incompatible with Linux on a daily basis, Windows is my only option. I might have no option but to replace this machine soon.
A simple Bios update from Acer might solve it ....here's hoping it could be available in the near future.

WINE302 won't cut it? It's good. But I only run a few Win-only apps from time to time. Jack E/NJ

Unfortunately not. The retail pos runs as a remote client on the machine, connecting to the server via the local network. The IT vendor confirms that the connection is Windows specific and the client will not open correctly. Anywas , I'm getting side tracked. The point is that my Acer laptop has to retire way too early due to a bios update that Acer has not deemed worthy of creating yet.

Apologies for not replying any sooner. I simply meant updating the OS to the newer version. I am trying to live with the problem for the moment , hoping a Bios update might solve this sometime soon. It gets annoying when the blue notice screen pops up just after startup to tell me the OS I am using has been discontinued October 2017 and I nee to update. This notice can not be dismisssed easily and getting back to the desktop can take a few minutes of swearing and clicking. Just this morning the pc was unusable for around 10 minutes.
I've tried all the settings I can find on this subject .

You seem to have 3 choices with this machine & vendor. [1] Re-install Win8.1 if it was originally factory-installed. Then you'd be good to go with regular Win8.1 maintenance updates till 2023. [2] Upgrade to Win10Pro to better control the heavy-handed major Win10updates but still no maintenance updates for the major Win10 version that works on it now. [3] Live with the grief and hope either a Microsoft, ACER or vendor will fix the issue for this machine (I wouldn't hold my breath). Jack E/NJ
