So I got myself into a situation where the laptop won't recognize the webcam, it just says that it's not attached.

I already tried a replacement one, the MB to camera wiring is fine (used a multimeter to test), all the drivers and bios is up to date, device manager shows 0 signs of it being attached or anything.
I spent quite sometime looking for a solution but nothing helped. I'd be grateful if anyone gave me some ideas what to try next

The webcam's "wiring" can't easily be checked for continuity with a multimeter because they are also embedded in the video ribbon cable conductor traces from the mainboard thru the hinge area and on to the lcd and webcam. These traces sometimes develop intermittent breaks in the hinge area from the wear and tear of opening closing the lid. Also the cable connectors to the lcd inverter, mainboard and vidicam  sometimes need to be re-seated a half dozen or so times to clean up the internal contacts. I'd first try re-seating all the connectors. If that doesn't resolve the issue, then try a replacement video cable for less than $20. Jack E/NJ
