Greetings,

I got my Tab 10 yesterday, all good. Just a quick question - is it really necessary to carry and use that enormous charger cable?? its USB-C, can't I simply use chargers that work with USB-C tablets or phones? What about charging it directly from a portable USB-C battery?

Thanks

Yes, you can use other chargers, however DC-in: requires power adapter or power source providing 45 W at 5/ 9/15/20 Volts.

If your USB-C source, either a power bank or cable off another machine isn't putting out enough power (45W) your Chromebook might work, but not gain much charge while running, or it might work and actually loose charge while running, but slower than running strictly off the battery. If it's getting enough power it should work as well or close to as well as the stock charger. Note that the stock charger has some smarts in it to vary the voltage (the 5/9/15/20) for fastest charge without overcharging. With a power bank or cable you'll always be charging at the 5V setting, so it'll be slower even if it's got the full 45W available.

This Chromebook has a 8860 mAh, 3.84 V, 2-cell Li-polymer battery pack and it is recommended to use the same USB Type-C45W 20V 2.25A 3-PIN adapter shipped with the device.
This model has a USB Type-C port with DC-in and connects to the provided USB Type-C power adapter and to USB devices with a USB
Type-C connector. Delivers up to 3 A at 5 V DC for USB charging. Also, DC-in: requires power adapter or power source providing 45 W at 5/ 9/15/20 V.

Thanks for the answer. I understand that it is recommended. I am wanting to know if it will work with other chargers. The answer does not say yes or no... What would be the consequence of trying ?
