Specs are 1070 and I7-7700HQ. I play games with V-sync on so technically the laptop isn't even running on full load. It discharges slowly but it still concerns me. My power supply says 230W on it. Surely this should be enough? Additionally I find my battery charges fairly slow and only lasts around 2 hours (most times less) even when only browsing the internet. I this "normal"? Performance is never impacted but my last laptop did not do this. I have latest bios and drivers installed.

    Hi,
you could try a battery reset, switch off the laptop, disconnect from mains and follow the instructions in the video, let the laptop to rest for a while before starting again.

Then yo could also do a manual calibration of battery, please find the method in the middle of the page in the link:https://www.howtogeek.com/172271/how-to-calibrate-your-laptops-battery-for-accurate-battery-life-estimates/

Load isn't restricted to just FPS - other graphic options too matter. E.g., Ultra settings with NVIDIA hairworks in Witcher 3 get GPU utilitzation to 100%, even at restricted 60 FPS. Disabling just the hairworks gets it down to 70%. Smaller things like this too matter.

Also 1070 alone can pull up to 150W, not counting other components such a 7700 CPU. The bundled power supply cannot match the power needs. And for a laptop to have 500W charger does not make any sense.

Also, so you know, my Windows 10 Pro gave me a measely 2 hours 40 mins on battery - 99% to 5% (5% is my critical to hibernate).

I disabled a few services like super fetch, indexing and such. And also the main culprit - vmware services - set to manual.
With screen brightness at 30%, and watching a movie on laptop screen and sound at 60% with dolby effects, i got 4 hours 45 mins - battery 99% to 5%. And this is pretty reasonable.
Mine is a G3-572, so results may vary for yours.

Also I undervolted by CPU by 0.125 and GPU by 0.030 - but this is more for running the laptop cooler.
And then, I fine tuned my windows power profile to extend battery life, and use minimal power even when connected to power, without effecting performance.
