Hi everybody,

I fear the worse as I've done quite a bit to try fix it over the past couple of days.  After a Windows 10 update, sound stopped working in the installed speakers, headphone jack, and even when I use my blue tooth headphones.
I've tried the following fixes:

1.  I rolled back the system restore to a restore point when it still worked (e.g. rolling back the update), and still no luck, even tried an earlier point and no luck
2.  I've un-installed/re-installed sound drivers in device manager (in device manager and playback device settings they keep appearing installed and fine), restarted and no luck
3.  Tried installed the latest Realtek driver from Acer, and updating the driver, restart no luck
4.  Tried un-installing and re-installing sound drivers from device manager again no luck
5.  Tried disabling realtek device in device manager restarting and re-enabling no luck
6.  Used a driver updater program to check for and install latest drivers - no luck7
7.  Audio trouble shooter for speakers or bluetooth headset simply spins and then crashes

Frustrating thing, in device manager and playback device settings, when I check them, everything is supposedly working fine and enabled.  But I still have the x saying No speakers or headphones are plugged in error message.

Looking forward to a solution.  Thanks.

Uninstall audio drivers from Device Mgr. Don't try to re-install anything. Exit. Reboot and try letting Win10 re-detect and automatically install the drivers. Jack E/NJ

OK. Set speaker volume to ~50%. Open Control Panel/Settings. Search "speakers". Are speakers checkmarked default in manage audio devices? If speakers aren't shown, right-click on Playback tab and click show disabled devices and enable them. Report back. Jack E/NJ

When I click adjust system volume, I receive the message from the volume mixer "No audio device is installed".  When I click speakers are check marked as default.  If I right click on speakers and check properties, and properties the status is device is working properly.  I have tried to disable speakers, to see if that would help make my blue tooth headphones work, but for some reason it won't let me disable anything (e.g. I click disable, apply ok, it is still enabled).

Uninstall sound drivers again. Do NOT try to re-install anything. Exit Device Mgr. Then also check Control Panel programs for any sound driver installation programs and uninstall those too. Do NOT try to re-install any of those programs either. Then do a cold boot and let Win10 redetect the hardware and automatically re-install the missing drivers. Jack E/NJ

Ok, uninstalled everything from device manager.  The only program for sound drivers was the realtek sound driver., un-installed it and deleted the unzipped/zipped file from downloads (had tried updating it before).  Restarted, re-downloaded the realtek sound driver from Acer, and re-installed.  Restarted, still nothing.

HOLD IT! I just noticed your latest comment! >>>Restarted, re-downloaded the realtek sound driver from Acer, and re-installed.  >>> You were NOT supposed to re-download or re-install anything from ACER or anywhere else!!! This was supposed to be done automatically by Win10 after it established WIFI connection!!! So disregard the following paragraph until you let Win10 do all the work of downloading and installing all the missing drivers. Jack E/NJ

OK. The only way to rule in or rule out a hardware issue with a fairly high degree of certainty is a cold boot ALT+F10 factory Win10 refresh or reset. Shut the machine completely off. Then turn it back on and immediately press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key. The ACER recovery screen should appear as shown below. I'd first try to do a refresh to see if it fixes the problem. If not, then I'd probably do a full system backup as-is, then try to reset the machine to a factory fresh state. If still no joy, then yes it appears to be a hardware failure that coincidentally happened with but likely not caused by the Win10update. Jack E/NJ

I had the exact same issue above, tried everything and still nothing works. Last option are Factory Reset, gonna do it later.

    How i got the issue?
I used external screen and bluetooth speakers all the times and I want to bring my laptop to another room, I unplugged HDMI and power off bluetooth speakers at the same time. *laptop is still On* then when i try to adjust my volume, this happened.

I'm still able to connect to bluetooth speakers, HDMI to monitor and the sound problem work fine, only the laptop internal speakers has the problems.

    Model : Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R9B3

Turn EVERYTHING off. The turn on the external devices back on. Then turn the laptop back  on last.
