Is it possible to turn the Helios 500 into normal work PC by throttling everything for battery life?

Helios 500 seems like the perfect PC for me to buy but there is one big catch. Im starting university studies soon and need more battery life than the usual 1-3 hours. I was wondering if its possible to throttle the PC via PredatorSense so much so that it basicly turns into a normal non-gaming PC with ~7h battery life, and then back into full performance when i want to play games. The performance does not really matter in the non-gaming state since i would only use it to browse webs and write pages etc.

Hi, For your information Acer Predator Helios 500 is equipped with 74Wh, 4810 mAh, 4-cell battery, which is hardly enough for a 4K monitor and a processor and GPU combo of this caliber. The unit could only last for three hours of web browsing and about two hours and a half of video playback. However, the time you got if you decide to play some games away from the plug is respectable – almost two hours. Unfortunately, it is not possible to tweak the unit performance and improve battery life.

You want a gaming system, you get a gaming system. You could tune down several aspects like disabling turbo n such, but keep in mind... your display would still be a 4k one, and a 4k display is a power hog. Personally, I'd rather have a HD screen and an external 4k display.

Or spare an extra $200 and get a smaller one for your laptop that an go on for many hours, keeping this for gaming.

You can increase your battery life by changing the power settings. Right click on battery -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings and change everything to max battery saver on battery. The most important things are to change Processor power management. You can set the maximum processor state to let say 50%. I suggest you will not use CPU demanding apps, while you are on battery, so this should not be a performance issue. The other battery eating thing is the Brightness. Lower brightness gives you a lot extra battery.
With this settings, I managed to extend my Helios 300 8 gen processor laptop battery life from 2-3 hours to 5-6 hours on low usage (Microsoft Office, Web browsing).

    Hope it would help :)

You can reduce Windows power setting to Best Battery Life, undervolt and restrain the CPU & GPU, reduce display brightness to minimum, equally such a power hungry heavyweight like the Helios 500 is never going to reach 7 hours on battery.

My own Predator 17 (G9-793) is undervolted, has a larger battery capacity and it can only just manage 4 hours of realistic usage.  Windows may predict 7-8 hours, however the 17" display and GTX 1070 GPU take there toll.  If you want a gaming notebook with better battery life you need one with both Intel integrated & Nvidia GPU with Optimus.  In many respects you would be better of buy an Ultrabook with the battery life you need and building a cheap gaming desktop.

I dont aim to purchase the 4k monitor one, rather the 144Hz FHD one
