SP714-51 black screen and won't power on

This has happened a few times before. The laptop won't power on when not charging, but won't turn on when plugged in either. It loads to a black screen which is still lit by blue light, but doesn't boot up. When I press the power button the backlight turns off but I don't the the laptop actually turns off.

I've tried fixing it by doing a battery reset (pressing down the battery button at the bottom of the laptop with a paper clip for 30 seconds, waiting 5 mins before plugging back into charging port and turning on again) but this only works after several attempts and I have to wait over 30 mins for it to work. 

I want to know what is behind this problem because it's such a annoyance to do battery resets over and over until it works (and I'm not even sure if it's what is fixing the problem). I'm not sure either if it's a problem with the battery adaptor or the laptop either. Even though the laptop will only "turn on" (with backlight) while it's charged, when I fix the problem the laptop is still charged, and no where near 0%

same exact issue ... out of nowhere ... have Acer found a problem/solution to this?
