Hey Acer Community,

After much research, I have finally purchased an Acer Predator Helios 300 Laptop from my local microcenter. The intended use of this machine will be for video editing and some light gaming. However, when playing games such as fortnite, the laptop tends to heat up quite a bit, with the CPU maxing out at 91°C and the GPU maxing out at 71°C. Anyway, I am not very familiar with laptops in general so I was wondering if these temps are at all normal, and if not, what can I do to reduce them.

Thanks, Ryan

Thanks for the early response. I have heard of people undervolting the CPU. However since I’ve only purchased it 2 days ago, I may just return it and try another model such as the Dell Inspiron 7577, especially since I’m already having problems with it.

Well the Helios 300 is great laptop, but this is a little problem ,overheating, but a cheap cooling pad and undervolting u can get temperature max 80. I think this is the problem for all laptops , you don't have so many options when comes to cooling.

Ok thanks man, I’ll look into it. I don’t mind the heat though as long as it doesn’t damage the laptop in the long term

Do you think it would be damaging to continue using it at these temps?

for the cpu? yes....it might damage the internal components..its better to undevolt your cpu or the best solution is to change the stock thermal paste......
