My Aspire E5-575G hardware specs say the wifi can max at 433 Mbps, Google fiber provides up to 1000 Mbps.  My IPhone 7 gets over 300 Mbps on the same network, while the Acer gets barely 200 Mbps.
i have the latest drivers but don't know if there are settings that need to be modified. Any suggestions?

You might want to download and try the freeware "tcp optimizer" to tweak the adapter. Jack E/NJ

OK. Then are the e5 & iPhone using the ***same analyser***  to assess their respective speeds? Jack E/NJ

OK. Thanks for the link. Because it saved me from asking a bunch of other questions. Like did you try the steps listed here https://support.google.com/fiber/answer/2440110 ? If yes --- and you're still stuck at the lower end of max range  --- then I'd like to see the response you get (if any) by describing your issue in the space provided on this support page. Jack E/NJ
