My wife and I bought this monitor in 2016 to use as a second screen with our notebooks and old home iMac.
Last year, I received a MacBook Pro (2017 15" TouchBar) and use it with HDMI (with Apple-branded Multiport USB C to HDMI adapter).
A few things have begun to happen that I'd like to get some feedback on before I send it in for warranty service.
- Press power button to turn-off monitor, blue LED turns off; however, the display panel backlight will sometimes stay on or come on all by itself (black screen), nothing on. This happens pretty often now.
- Picture will intermittently go in/out of clarity vs. fuzzy. Unplug/re-plug monitor solves the problem temporarily. Using resolution 1920x1080 (1080p) on MacBook Pro (2017 15" TouchBar with Apple-branded USB C/HDMI adapter), and on old iMac (DVI, El Capitan, Apple-branded mini-DVI to DVI Adapter).
- Connected via VGA, no issues except text and graphics are "fuzzy" at-best. Not crisp or detailed at all. Connected with iPhone 7 via Apple-branded Lightening to VGA adapter, it works but still fuzzy.
- At-times, if I've used the K272HL via HDMI on my MacBook Pro, it will occasionally cause the MacBook Pro to not wake past black screen. At work, I use a VGA projector (classroom) and HDMI projector (another classroom), no issues, they never causes the MacBook Pro to glitch-up. Only if I've used the K272HL at home with this MacBook Pro does it cause the MacBook Pro to have the "wake to black screen" issue (knock on wood). I spoke with AppleCare, they advised me to not use the monitor any longer as it may be what is causing it to glitch-up.
- I've swapped the HDMI cables, too. No change.
For the moment all roads seem to point to the monitor.
I tried looking for an updated driver (per AppleCare instructions) but was unable to find one for Mac. The only workaround I've found is to use it with VGA-only, or just use my small 32" bedroom TV (via HDMI) with the MacBook Pro when I need to work.
Please advise, thanks!
