NVMe support for Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-75A2 (NH.Q2QAA.015) i7 7700hq 16gb ram 1050 ti 1tb hdd

Hello all,

I have recently purchased (has not arrived yet and I do not have physical access to the laptop) from newegg (https://www.newegg.com/global/be/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834316406). I did not realize at the time of the purchase that this model comes only with an HDD and no SSD is included.
Probably I got confused with newegg's configurator (the i5 apparently comes with an M.2 256 drive). This is not too bad and if that M.2 slot (I assume my model has an M.2 slot right? after all it is 2018) can support NVMe drives, it is an advantage as I plan to install the operating system/programs on a samsung 960 evo and keep the hard drive for storage.

So my question is, does the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-75A2 (NH.Q2QAA.015) supports NVMe drives?

I have successfully installed and currently booting via my new Samsung 960 EVO NVMe SSD. IO speeds are as expected and everything works really really nice. So definitely nitro 5 AN515-51 supports NVMe drives. During this whole time what I found really confusing was the tip to check the Maximum Link width under PCI Express Root Port in HWiNFO64. This is completely false. Yes when the NVMe is installed it will show 4x, but if it is not, it will not report anything more than the existing installed drive and if it happens to be a HDD one it will show 1x. As a conclusion if your PCI port is not populated then HWiNFO64 is not useful.
