Acer Predator 21x Screen Brightness does not change

In my Acer Predator 21x laptop - Model: Predaator GX21-71 - The windows screen brightness slider is enabled, and using the keyboard hotkeys to change its values also work, as the I can see the brightness slider go up and down. However, the screen's actual brightness never changes.
I have tried a few solutions - I tried updating all video card drivers and display drivers: all of them were up to date.
I also tried to look at my power management settings: screen brightness control was enabled.
The windows version seems alright, all updated to the latest release, and there are no problems with the ID code.
I don't seem to be able to find a solution to this problem. Does anyone have a possible solution to this?

21X is a scarce notebook and more complex than most. I think your best option is to speak with Acer support directly, normally updating the drivers should fix this. Just to confirm you updated the Intel graphics driver from Device manager?

I have exact same issue. The only fix for this I have found is to use the nvidia driver (376.89) from acer's website or the drivers windows update installs automatically. If you use latest or any other drivers, it wont work. Let me know if you have found any other solution.0

You can try switching your windows power plan from balanced to high performance or vice versa.
Ive heard one guy had his on high performance and he switched to balanced and rebooted, only to find high performance was missing.
He then created a new high performance profile and it fixed the auto brightness.- Hotel Hero0 -
i have another solution but you have to do this every time you open your laptop....i have this issue too
first when you open the windows right click and go to nvidia control panel then display and change the refreshrate to anyother that is available, in my case i change to 40hz then again change it to 60hz, this is how i solve my problem.
yes this is annoying but this is what it is...have a nice day0 -
Still not working for me. I am certain that this is an nvidia driver issue in Acer Predator 21x. The only way the brightness changes if I use very old nvidia drivers as I mentioned in my earlier comment. I am planning to mod the drivers and see how it goes.0

Seeing as how Acer uses custom hardware it's not so strange that older drivers would work.
As time moves on older hardware is forgotten and the generic updates from Windows don't function properly.
388.31 is a good driver version give that one a try.- Hotel Hero0 -
So if I use older driver, will there be any performance drops in latest games ?0

No way brother, it's the exact opposite in fact.
Using latest drivers most of the time had a negative impact on games (especially on mobile devices).
Sometimes* the latest driver works best for whatever game is being released at the time, but overall finding the best driver to suit your hardware is pretty normal.
For every gaming rig I've ever owned I use a driver that works good, then when a new one is released I try it out with a benchmark... if the previous works better I revert.
I'm using 388.31 on pretty much every device I own and have about a 5-6% boost in performance over latest drivers.- Hotel Hero0 -
I'll use 388.31 and test performance compared to the latest one.0

are you guys not upset that acer 21x is now with dead end hardware with no upgrade path. 4 cores and two 1080, with 2080 coming soon and intel is already at 8 cores starting in october. other laptops from clevo or MSI work station can upgrade to 8 cores cpu while 21x stuck with 4 cores really sucks. they make us pay all that but dont offer upgrade path which is a real shame, was hoping to see them continue with x299 or x599 CPU.0
