Hello, I hope someone can help. I have just bought a A515-51g-82ar laptop for my wife and the wifi is super slow, wifi is working great on other devices at home. I’ve updated the acers driver but no change. Please can someone offer helpful advise? Thanks from the husband in the doghouse.

    Hi,
You could try a different DNS and see whether it fixes the problem, open Network and Internet(right click WiFi icon in taskbar), click Change adapter options, right click WiFi, select Properties, highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and click Properties, click "Use this DNS..." radio button and enter new DNS address, you can use Open DNS, Google DNS or Cloudflare DNS(in my snip).
    Open DNS: 208.67.222.222
                     208.67.220.220
    Google DNS: 8.8.8.8
                       8.8.4.4

Thanks brummy, I’ll have a go - I’m not really sure what that means but I’ll try. 👍🏼

Sadly I’m still a resident in the doghouse 😂 An earlier speed test showed 0.9 Mbps down and with the cloudflare and open dns there was no speed change unfortunately. Google got me to 0.16 down and 1.24 up. I’m getting about 20 on my phone wifi.

    im open to suggestions 😬

Download driver version 12.0.0.448 from the link below, go to Device manager, expand Network adapters, uninstall the driver, do not reboot, install the downloaded driver and see whether it helps.

I don’t see my previous question to you brummy, but I don’t have the option for uninstall driver, just uninstall device. Is that the same?

I’m under heading wireless network adapter properties in the driver tab. It says Driver details, Uodate Driver, roll back driver disable device and uninstall device. 😫

Do you have any third party AV programs( Norton or McAfee) installed in your laptop? If so, uninstall it with the removal tool from them and see whether it helps.

Testing with another laptop (Lenovo) showed the same super slow wifi speed so I need to look into my modem settings and call my provider. I’ll keep you posted, thanks for your help so far 👍🏼

I've just bought a A515-51/A515-41 and am having exactly the same problem. Tried the stuff below and more. Turning Norton off seemed to help somewhat but is very intermittent still. Getting pretty frustrating. If anyone has any further help, or if you got the problem sorted Tim, would love to know!

    Hi,
You could try different Preferred Band in Advanced tab, go to Device manager, expand Network adapters, highlight and right click the WiFi card, click Properties, go to Advanced tab and click Preferred Band, select different band with dropdown arrow and see whether it fixes the problem.
