Acer Aspire E5-575G-77FW Coil Whine

Hello everyone!

I see this has been asked before but I still got no solution about this problem: basically the laptop often emits whining-chirping high pitched noises while rendering graphics, transferring files and so on.
The sound comes from the left corner of the touchpad, but it's not related to the fan as it keeps being there even when the fan is forced off.

It gets much worse when plugging the power supply! Like, it switches on and off in the exact same moments I plug the cord in and out. However I'm not sure it's all the supply's fault because it happens even without plugging it in.

Another situation in which it becomes unbearable is when performing actions at boot-time. When doing so,it just keeps beeping and chirping,very loudly.
Also I noticed the laptop often becoming slower and unresponsive for no reason in particular, especially at boot.

I tried sending it two times to repair as it's still under warranty, but the 1st time they didn't do anything,and the second they changed the hard disk for no reason in particular (since the HDD didn't pose any problem at all,wasn't noisy,and anyway it didn't solve anything).

I'm seriously considering selling this laptop because it's driving me mad. I paid good money for it and Acer doesn't care about fixing it at all..any possible solution? Any suggestion is welcome!!

If the problem really is a coil whine, then nothing can be done, except replacing the motherboard. I suggest you to contact Acer once again.

Thank you Ven. Do you recommend anything to convince them to finally look into this problem and not fool me thrice, or should I just try my luck once more?
Last time an Acer employee repairing the laptop called me to warn about the HDD substitution, and told me the coil whine "was nothing to be afraid of"; not only this is highly subjective since the noise is really annoying,but also the laptop slowing down isn't what I'd call "not a problem"..

Is it possible to explain in more detail the slowing down of the laptop. For example when does it happen? Does it happen when you do a certain activity or it happens randomly? The coil whine is not related to how the laptop performs and it is harmless, but very annoying.

Yes,often it'll take a lot (sometimes 3-4 minutes) to boot up (even if startup tasks have been reduced to bare minimum) and in those cases it often freezes/stutters at the login screen. Even after managing to log in, it can take few minutes before the requested programs (even just firefox) will start.
Things like Matlab always take a lot of time to boot up and initialize properly.

What confuses me isn't the problem itself,but that a lot of friends' laptops which may be even more bloated, or generally with lower specs won't run into this kind of problems and boot up/start software normally.

This has been going on since the very first time I've used this laptop,and since then Windows it's been reinstalled few times before the HDD was replaced by the support team,and even then the problem hasn't been solved; most often, when incurring in this slowing down, the coil whine will start.
I'm 100% positive there are no viruses or malicious software in it! And I don't have a big collection of data, rather I'm using about 15% only of the HDD so it's probably not related to the file system...

I would try to install a Linux distro to see if it works more smoothly but I'm afraid it'll mess up something else in the laptop if I'm not careful with BIOS, also I don't know what are Acer rules with respect to this kind of "modifications"..

I see why they swapped the HDD, because usually slow start-ups and frequent freezes are simptoms of a faulty drive, which is not to be the case, which confuses me too.

As the problem is not the drive(they changed it), then it could be that the laptop is just a 'lemon' and needs to visit Acer for a 3rd time or it could be a driver related problem or maybe a BIOS.

After the factory reset windows automatically searches and installs the latest driver available in microsoft's database. It is possible that one of these drivers is interfering with the OS, which causes the slow loading. To see if the problem is from a driver run windows in safe mode(press shift+restart). If the issue doesn't persist in safe mode, then OS is fine and the issue occurs because of a driver. You have to update every driver(graphics, sound, network) from the manufacturers' websites like nvidia, intel, realtek etc. If the issue persists in safe mode, then you can try with updating the BIOS.

Before updating the BIOS go to the BIOS menu(F2 at boot-up) and press F9 to reset the settings to defult and then F10 to save and exit. If the issue is still there download the latest BIOS here, which is 1.32. After the file is downloaded, you have to extract it. The extracted file is .exe. Before running the executable make sure the laptop is fully charged and plugged in. It is better to disconnect all USB devices. After this is done run the .exe. If the BIOS is already 1.32, then don't execute the update. During the installation of the BIOS, the system may restart several times.

Hey Ven,thank you much for your time.
I tried what you suggested, and upon seeing that Safe Mode didn't solve the issue, I tried upgrading the BIOS.
Unfortunately it still shows some lagging, and the whine still persists; I suspect, after having read a bit of reports in various internet forums, that the problem may lie in the GPU voltage regulation, seeing as it becomes worse when rendering even the simplest graphics, and being that influenced by the power supply..

I guess the only things that remain is to either contact Acer for the n-th time, or sell this wretched thing..I guess that for some the whine may not pose that much of a problem but it honestly drives me mad in certain situation.

Lemme know if it's your lucky chance, I'm actually try to sell it right now as like you I can't stay long periods without it because of Uni..
Yeah I also think the "G" series of every Acer laptop is suboptimal, did you buy yours from MediaWorld?
