ES1-111M .......Missing Keyboard...

Comp is 3 1/2 years old never gets turned off. Win 8.1 was reinstalled six months ago. Earlier this week Windows ran an update which resulted in a blank screen. After this it refused to start even after several attempts. I left it sitting , approx 25 minutes later the, " Don't turn of the comp " appeared followed by a blank screen for approx 15 minutes, it then booted to the Desktop. We then found that the keyboard wasn't functioning. I checked the driver and found that it had a Yellow flag/arrow against it. Uninstalled that and rebooted, same result, no keyboard. Disabled the driver and now use the on screen keyboard. Acer don't have a driver and I don't know the make of the keyboard. Did a reinstall of the OS, still no keyboard. Driver disabled.
Now the Boot time is ten minutes so I am assuming something cannot be found. All Acer bloatware has been removed and the startup contains one entry and that is an Anti-Virus.
I have now set it not to turn off.

Any help would be gratefully received,

If Win8.1 was the factory-installed version --- and it's still running Win8.1 --- and Win10 has never been installed or tried out --- then press and hold the power button for 5secs so the machine completely shuts off. Then turn the machine back on. What happens? Jack E/NJ

Sounds like the KB ribbon cable has completely loosened from the mainboard. It might partly explain the slow or intermittent starts as the system was having trouble detecting it. http://curvetube.com/Acer_aspire_laptop_keyboard_replacement/yneNaVukd1w.video Jack E/NJ

JackE, I have just removed the back and dis-assembled as much as one can, re-assembled and lo and behold the keyboard is working. All I did other than that was give it a clean although it was cleaned a couple of months ago so little dust to speak off. Prior to posting my question I had taken the back off and checked the keyboard ribbon and all appeared OK, so maybe I altered something or knocked something who knows. Anyway, thank you for you relies and assistance.

I suspect that you're eventually gonna have to bite the bullet and actually try re-seat the KB ribbon connector a few times to clean and secure its contacts tightly to the mainboard. Jack E/NJ

Have you tried to get into the BIOS setup ? If you can then the BIOS is recognizing the keyboard.

Yes I understood it was working again, Eddie. My point was that If the problem returns, you might want re-seat KB ribbon connector a few times to clean its contacts even if it looks OK Jack E/NJ
