Good evening to each and every person reading this post,
Heartfelt thanks for sparing the time out of your day to keep track of a forum which I can not do any more like I used to.
My questions stem from poverty: See, any laptop costs about 75% more due to VAT, shipping fees, local taxes and everything when you buy one in Turkey. Therefore, while my cousin was gearing up to return for their wedding, I quickly glanced on Houston's CraigsList ads and spotted this Acer Aspire VX15 for roughly the same price as a very mediocre HP or Dell model here and bought it but there are some modifications that I would like to do to set it up anew so I can start using it:
- I fixed the keyboard and power cable localisation issues through the official local service but the screen is a bit dull as many reviews pointed out. Did anybody handle a screen change for a brighter version on this model and if you did, could you please point me in the right direction?
- I will max up the RAM at 32 GB but I could not find the official Acer guide that shows how one opens the chassis and finds the correct place for various components. Both my HP and Dell laptops provided these manuals on their Support sections.
- I did not use Windows since Windows 7 but I always found it more secure to use the precedent version (Windows 8.1 in our case). Would I miss anything if I format the laptop and install a blank Windows 8.1 Pro and add the Acer software manually from the Support section?
- Speaking about OS, I always favour Linux distros for anything to be done on the internet. Would you install the Linux or the Windows first? I read that Windows causes some issues when one wants to use multiple OS at once?
- Finally, I believe the 1 TB HDD is more than enough for all purposes but I thought upgrading to a 512 GB SSD instead of the current 128 GB one could be wiser in the long term. Could I buy any 512 GB SSD and install it or is there a specific type of connection technology like PCI-e, or model type like DDR4 that I should watch for? In addition, could the discarded 128 GB be used in an older Dell Inspiron 5110?
- This question is merely informational but is the graphics unit of GTX 1050 truely an external unit? Meaning that if wanted, we could take it out and switch with a GTX1070?
I can not thank you enough for even reading these questions so it's needless to say that I truly appreciate and admire all the informational holes you are going to fill in
