Does Acer Swift 3 Ryzen 5 SF315-41 support M.2 PCIe NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 SSD

Acer Swift 3 Ryzen 5 SF315-41
Part Number - UN.GV7SI.001
Comes with 1TB HDD no SSD but an empty M.2 SSD slot .
I was told in this forum that for this Acer Swift 3 series the standard support for M.2 slot is

Now on the pathetic customer support of Acer
Called up customer rep asking the same , details about the M.2 slot . he flatly refused , cant give as he is also not aware . Only service center can tell .
Surprising no page exist for the product specifications of this laptop

WHY ACER ???

Okay so got this NVMe SSD after receiving helpful responses
256GB SSD Samsung PM961 M.2 PCIe NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 SSD
got the fast PCI Express NVME Gen3 x4 interface & M.2 2280 , thinking that the latest launched laptop would at least support that
But to my horror it refused to show in BIOS , nothing , HDD0 - shows blank . had to return it . Due to the warranty sticker even got SSD installed from service center and the asses there didnt even tell that its not supported or not recognized . Took my money , installed this and handed me back .......
unbelievable....

Now i regret my purchase , the HDD makes noise , Video is skipping in 2160P 10 bit video , cant install an SSD , if i pause a video in vlc it will never run properly only stuttering . All this is when its on power with power mode as best performance . Only solution is to restart the video after closing VLC
stuck with a LEMON which cant return now

So somebody can pls tell me which all M.2 SSD it supports on this useless piece of ****

Since I do not have a Swift, it is hard to say however I have a Samsung EVO 850 in my R11 and is much faster than the original disk. From what I understand, the 9xx series is NVMe which requires PCIe support mainly found in desktops. Have looked at m.2 adapters on Amazon and very few support NVMe. Those that do require a PCI slot.

So I would suggest that NVMe is not always supported and unless I knew it was would stay with the 6Gb/s SATA III devices like the Samsung EVO 850.

Agreed but the speed difference between the two with NVMe 3 times faster . As per specs posted in other thread - Ryzen™R5 and Ryzen™R7 support up to PCIE SSD 4 lane(x4)
So wanted some official confirmation before i plunge again and would always prefer NVMe above SATA

OK just like an i7 can support 8 USB slots, whether everything the CPU can support is implemented on the MotherBoard depends on the manufacturer. Said before it is rare to find PCIe support in a laptop. If there are any they will be very high end (possibly Alienware).

It is possible that NVMe will become more common in the future, but not yet.

I had installed 256GB SSD Samsung PM961 M.2 PCIe NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 SSD
Model: MZ-VLW2560
P/N: MZVLW256HEHP-000L7
P/N: SSS0L25044
this was not recognized in BIOS as even installed .i have already put supervisor password and disabled secure boot in BIOS .
if this did not work put then would Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V6E250BW) work ?

technically both are same but still . And any pointers why this one didnt work out ?
is there any acer lock on SSD being installed from marketinstead of purchase from Acer ??

This should've at least been recognised by the BIOS if it was GPS partitioned. Let's try to see what's supposed to be compatible. Go to crucial dot com. Download and run their scanner to see if it can identify the m.2 SSD properties that are recommended for your mainboard. Report back. Jack E/NJ

The links below show a couple people with SF315-41 using an Intel 600p PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Although I can't guarantee it will work on your SF315-41. Is the Intel 600p as fast as the Samsung 960 ? No. Would I try a Samsung 960 ? Probably.

Intel is also PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 same as my Samsung one
Should have worked Or is the BIOS locked to accept only whitelisted NVMe Ssd
I have returned the drive back as return date was passing through
But have a actual pic of the ssd

Would gladly take the Samsung back if someone can tell me who to get this working

You could try using Mini Tool Partition wizard to migrate your OS to the SSD, remove the HDD after migration and check whether it boots with the SSD. I think that this drive may not be compatible with your laptop, it's very difficult to find the difference between M.2 SATA SSD and a NVMe drive under normal operation, NVMe is faster in transferring large files, apart from that there's very little between them, so I would suggest you to get a M.2 SATA drive, use Mini Tool partition wizard to migrate your OS to it.

If you take it back to the Acer Service Center, tell them to try the Acer part below. (It's the Intel 600p M.2 NVMe PCIe)

I agree with Brummyfan2, you are unlikely to notice the speed difference between a regular M.2 with a SATA interface and a NVMe M.2....for day-to-day computing tasks.

I don't think the NVMe drive is worth the extra cost for most people.

I don't think the NVMe drive is worth the extra cost for most people. The only reason I bought NVMe is because I got a deal on it. I doubt if you'll get a deal at an Acer Service Center.

Will check that at service center They have no information about anything so have emailed up for technical reference They will give me which all ssd are compatible & prices available with Acer. That too would come from HQ as service center doesn't keep any ssd with them

Don't have any others laptop or adapter to load / clone OS on
In BIOS i did disable HDD1 hoping ssd would show but nothing

@kuduku If your mainboard doesn't have a replaceable GPU card, it's ***likelier*** to have an m.2 SATA slot than a mainboard with a replaceable GPU card. Jack E/NJ

I'm sure they'll tell you when they respond. But whatever you do.....don't leave the Acer Service Center without checking to make sure your M.2 SSD shows up in BIOS
