Hey. Few days ago I bought a new Acer Aspire 5 (A517-51G)

Everything's all fine and dandy, except one thing. For some reason the laptop keeps constantly going to sleep mode after approximately 2 minutes. This doesn't happen all the time. It might work as supposed for some time, but then it starts again. Restarting usually fixes this for some time. I have tried everything. Naturally I have checked all the power settings (advanced ones too). This happens even if I set the turn off screen & sleep to "never. Same thing no matter if the laptop is plugged in or not. I installed all the latest drivers from Acer website, uninstalled all the Acer bloatware. Nothing helps. This is driving me nuts. Can any of you offer any insight on what's going on?

(Edit: The retailer instructed me to try to update the BIOS to the newest version and see if it helps. I did the update and the problem still remains)

Thank you.

Try an ALT+F10 cold boot factory re-set. If still no joy return it to the vendor for a replacement or refund. Make sure the D2D recovery option is enabled in the BIOS Main tab. Also disable fast boot in the power plans. Jack E/NJ

Thanks for the tips JackE. I will try the factory reset. A question about the fast boot functionality. Is this something that has been known to cause issues on other PC units as well? In other words, if "fast boot" is the problem, will replacing the laptop fix the issue if it's a common and widespread problem? Or would this be just an isolated incident?

    Thank you.

No, fastboot isn't the cause of the sleep mode issue. Disabling fastbook is only needed if the system boots so fast that you can't access the BIOS with the F2 key fast enough. You may be able to access the BIOS without disabling fast boot if you start tapping the F2 key ***immediately*** after turning the machine on --- don't wait for the ACER logo screen to appear. Same with the ALT+F10 keys recovery. Ya gotta be quick with the fingers. Jack E/NJ
