I have an Acer Aspire ES1-512-C5YW and was planning upgrading the CPU but was wondering if it is soldered in. The following image is what the programme CPU-Z is saying.
But on the sticker on the laptop, it is saying it is an Intel Celeron® Processor N2840.
If it is soldered, can anyone tell me where I can get a motherboard upgrade with upgraded CPU.
Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, when you see socket type as BGA( Ball Grid Array), it's soldered.

Sorry. Might be cheaper, less of a hassle & safer just to get another machine with a lot better specs than what you're starting out with now. Jack E/NJ

I have thought about that. But as my Acer is over 4 years old I am willing to take that risk as I have just bought a backup machine.

OK. About all you can do is try to find a better mainboard that fits inside a case with similar or smaller dimensions than what you have now. The ES1 family would be my first place to look. If you go that far, it probably doesn't even have to be a ACER board. An exact fit mainboard form-factor with all the mounting screw holes in the right place is probably gonna be hard to find.
