Updating my predator G5-793 doesn't like restarting

I may have already asked this but do not remember getting a reply.
Basically everytime I update my laptop since my previous repair - no matter if its a windows or a graphics/game/driver update and requires a restart this laptop refuses to restart properly It closes, opens to the predator sound/screen and thats it. Doesn't do anything. Left it a whole day and no change. I have to turn it off by holding the power button down. Then it decides to want to show the circle that it's loading and then loads windows and continues with what ever update it was doing. This shouldn't happen. The HDD light displays during use and when I have shut down the laptop and loaded it when I want to use it but doesn't when it's trying to do an update restart. This only started to happen after I received the laptop back from it's repair, please advise - is it a bios thing?

Many updates work best with a complete power off cold re-boot instead of a warm re-start. I suggest that when the update installations ask if to re-start the machine, choose no. Then choose to completely shut off the machine normally thru Windows. Then turn the machine back on. Jack E/NJ
