Which of the two standards does the 3.5 mm jack use? OMTP or CTIA? I'm trying to use a Rode VideoMicMe microphone. It's made for Apple products and I've tried an OMTP to CTIA converter cable, but I can't get the microphone to work with or without it. Please help.

Cannot determine with certainty but it appears to be CTIA. The controller & interfaces are for the Realtek ALC255-CG audio adapter. I also understand that the converters are notoriously unreliable. Jack E/NJ

Ah, well... I've done a little more testing since my post. I started wondering whether it was the converter cable not working some kind of way, but I ruled that out by trying it on another device (an android phone). With the converter cable, it works. Without it, it doesn't work. Which tells me that the converter cable is at least "converting".

I'm to the point now where I'm starting to wonder if it's a Windows or hardware issue. It will detect when I plug the microphone in, It pops up and asks what device I just plugged in? It gives a handful of options; headphones, microphone, headset, line in, etc. No matter which I choose, I get no audio on the meter in the "Sounds" control panel.

The unreliability mentioned earlier mainly reflects OS issues. Jack E/NJ

So are you saying that even though this particular converter cable doesn't work with my Acer, a different converter cable might?

Yes. This cable might not work on any Win10 machine. If you have access to another Win10 system, you might want to test it out. Jack E/NJ
