    Hi,
Yes, you can install a NVMe SSD but you need to take off the back cover, it may void warranty, so please check with the Acer Support centre in your country.

Thank You very much for your reply. I am afraid I can buy it. Can you please share a link of internal component document.

So I can verify and buy happily

    Hi,
You might have PCIe 2 lanes enabled like me, so you will get a speed similar to mine which is half the advertised speed but still 3x the SATA speed.

thanks! i'm about to purchase this but the seller say it doesn't support pcie ssd only sata. the model of the laptop was:

"Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-59Z0 15.6" FHD Laptop Grey"

    and this is what the seller Q&A with me;

Question:   hi, does this support m.2 nvme pcie ssd? TQ
Answer:   Dear Valued Customer, Good Day ! It can support M.2 SATA only. PCIE not supported. Thank you and please feel free to let us know if there is any further inquiries.
    what's your laptop model anyway?
how did you enable that pcie x2 ? or it was enabled in default?

Could you share the complete model name that's printed on the sticker? Mine says "A515-51G-58GI".

Could you also share the make and model of the SSD you are using with your machine?

    Hi,
I have Samsung Evo 960 NVMe SSD in my A515-51-563W.

    Thanks a lot!

I checked the datasheet for both models and they're the same in the Storage section with no mention of the presence of an M.2 slot and whether or not it supports SATA 3 or NVMe but since you're already using EVO 960 NVMe SSD, I believe it will work with my model as well.

NOTE: My notebook model is A515-51G-58GJ and not A515-51G-58-GI. The J on the sticker looks a lot like an I.

Did you need to change any settings in the BIOS to be able to ensure the SSD is interfaced as NVMe instead of SATA?

    Hi,
You can ignore the last 4 digits of your model number, I have attached the links where others have succeeded in installing a NVMe SSD.

    Hi,
No, there are no Advanced settings in BIOS, so you don't need to change any settings.

    Thank you, that helps!

Could you post a HWiNFO64 screenshot of the PCI Express root port to which the M.2 SSD is connected?

I checked mine and the only root port that had 4x maximum link width was "Intel Skylake-U/Y PCH - PCI Express Root Port #1 [A1/C1]". It already had a device connected (Nvidia MX150) and using all 4 lanes although the link speed reported was 2.5 GT/s while the maximum supported is 8.0 GT/s.

I guess the M.2 port is connected to this bridge? And if it is, does that mean it will use all 4 PCIe lanes and run at rated speeds advertised by the NVMe SSD vendor? I'm sorry if I screwed up the terminologies as I'm new to this.

These screenshots might explain it better than I can:

    Hi,
It shows PCIe 4 lanes capable but it's limited to only 2 lanes in BIOS, so it works at half the speed advertised by Samsung, this is quite normal in Everyday laptops.

    Thanks!

I figured it must be a BIOS restriction to control temperatures. Someone might be able to get around that with a modded BIOS.
