Where is the memory located on my Spin 1 SP111-31 Laptop?

hi. I just bought 8GB memory from Crucial compatible for my laptop Acer Spin 1 SP111-31. Acer will not help me nor do they provide with the information on how to install or even tell me where the memory is located. Which is awful support. They say the memory for this laptop is upgradeable, but they don't give the customer instructions on how to install it. Which is lame and awful for a company of this size. I know how to install memory, but when I open the back blue plastic panel, I checked thoroughly and can't find the memory slots. Can anyone please help? Thank you.

It is located under the mainboard shield. You need to remove the lower case, Battery Pack, then gently push the latch securing the shield cover and then lift the cover off the mainboard to see the memory modules.

Not easy. Bottom cover and battery pack have to be removed. Google spin 1 disassembly for videos. Jack E/NJ PS There's a shield covering the module as well under the battery pack.

Thank you for the prompt reply. So the memory slots are underneath the SSD HD?

Might mention there is only one slot (at least on mine) so you cannot add memory, you have to replace it and has an 8GB max.

I have taken apart my laptop, I took out the battery, lifted it up, checked under it (just to be sure) and there were no slots there, I proceeded to try removing the cpu/motherboard shield/heat spreader (which was made of copper) and I found what I would assume to be either gallium or very hardened thermal compound, as when I tried poking/scratching at it, it was rock hard. After putting the shield/heat spreader back onto place, I disconnected and lifted the motherboard to see if there were any slots for anything, and I found nothing again. I don't know what else to do or where else to look unless I have to completely pull out the metal reinforcement for the deck/keyboard so I can get access to any ports that allow expandability of the device. If anybody has anything new or knows anything about the Acer spin 1 sp111-31 then please let me know (even if the news is that there is no expandability).

On my Spin 1  (SP111-31), the picture above looks correct, but the instruction that the memory module is under the battery is not. The metal housing is visible when the lower case is removed, held down by tabs around the edges. To release the cover, push a small screwdriver between each tab and the metal cover, and pry it apart slightly. When all the tabs are released, the cover will lift off to reveal the SODIMM module.

The Crucial website advises that the included 4GB module can be replaced with an 8GB one. I have ordered one for my Spin1, and will advise how the upgrade goes when it arrives.

Note, there is only one socket, so the only way to upgrade is to remove the existing module and replace with an 8GB module, so you'll be left with the 4GB module after.

Very impressed with Crucial. I ordered 2 days ago, chose the "free" shipping option (expected in 5-7 days), and it just arrived.

Installation was fairly easy (I had the case open previously to figure out where the memory slot is). It just took a few minutes to open up the case, swap the memory module and close up again.

It did seem to take a little longer to boot up. Not sure if that was just because it was identifying it for the first time, or it will be like every time now, but I don't power down the laptop too often, so it's not a big deal.

The system detects the increased memory no problem, and I have Chrome open with lots of tab. I've had some memory issues in the past, so hopefully it will behave better with 8GB.

Thanks for the diagrams above, they were a big help with figuring out where the memory needs to go.

This is what the top of your mainboard looks like according to the specsheet. If your's looks different or the RAM slot is missing, then perhaps you have a later model since the specifications are subject to change without notice. Jack E/NJ
