My new Acer Aspire E15 is performing very very slow, what can I do about it?

When I first received my new Acer Aspire E15, it was already a little bit laggy, the person who's running the laptop selling shop told me it is because of Windows 10, which causes almost every new laptop to be kinda laggy at times. So I've used it almost a year, sometimes it would be very laggy, and sometimes it would be average, never had it be like fast, or at least satisfying performance. The warranty is 3 years, what should I do to make this laptop run faster?
1. It constantly runs with 100% disk usage.
2. I'm using Avira as my AV program, because I once tried to uninstall Avira to use Windows Defender, it turns out eating lots of my memory, that's why I installed Avira again.

Please check if the latest version of BIOS is installed in your device. This is not an issue with harware malfunvtion. This can be caused by a varying number of factors. Recently, many users with windows 10 report that their disk utilization reaches to 100%, leading to lagging and unresponsive system.

Please try the below mentioned steps

1)Identify if you are running the inbox AHCI driver (StorAHCI.sys)

Press "Win+R" to call out the Run box, then type "devmgmt.msc" and hit Enter.

Under "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers", right-click "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" and select "Properties".

Navigate to the "Driver" tab and click "Driver Details". If you see "storahci.sys" in the list, you are running the inbox driver.

2)Disable Windows Search

Press "Win+R" combination keys to call out the Run box, then type "services.msc" and hit Enter.

Locate "Windows Search" and double-click it to enter its "Properties" window.

Change the Startup type option to "Disabled". Then click "Apply" and "OK" to save your change.

Check whether this works for 100 disk usage Windows 10.

3)Disable Disable SuperFetch Service

Press "Win+X" combination keys, then choose "Command Prompt (Admin)" and allow its user account control.

In the Command Prompt window, type "net.exe stop superfetch" and hit the Enter key.

Wait for a few minutes and check if your computer starts performing better.

4)If you've installed some antivirus or anti-malware programs on computer, you can temporarily disable them to see if they're the cause of your 100 percent disk usage problem. If your computer's disk usage returns to normal, you may need to contact the software vendor to see if they can provide some help.

3. It has 4gb DDR4, i5-7200U, 1000GB HDD, Nvidia GeForce 940MX, 2GB graphics card. Model number is E5-575G-54G7.
4. Sometimes, applications in Office 365 takes forever to load and open, which really gets me very very frustrated every time.

Would it be better if I add a 128gb SSD or a 4GB ram. I just need my laptop for doing assignment and works,but the slow performance really upsets me at times of urgent and need, so please help!

I'm not sure if my laptop is using the inbox driver, is it using the inbox driver?

And how should I get my laptop to be more responsive, would adding a SSD driver help?

Given the 100% disk usage, I would speculate that Windows is in the process of installing the Fall Creators Update. It does not always give any outside indication this is happening. Often times it is actually installing updates in the background while you are using it. This is an absolutely massive patch (around 9GB) so it will bring the system to it's knees while running. I always recommend to my customers that they leave the machine connected to the internet and leave it on throughout the night so that Windows has the opportunity to install it during a time when you aren't using it.

You will know the update is complete because it will say "We have a new version of Windows for you" - after that it should be fine.

The Acer Aspire e15 is one of the worst laptops I've ever owned. After about a year, the keyboard light quit working, and then shortly after that, I found that the battery would not charge. I am a tech, so I tested the battery, and it tested good. Having worked on electronics for years, I disassembled the laptop, and found that the switching transistor that feeds the keyboard light died. In addition, I found that I had to reflow the charging circuitry in order to get the battery to charge. It now charges the battery intermittently, and that means, that I probably got a defective motherboard. (i.e. intermittent opens in the traces) Smh. I had to wire up a external plug to charge the battery, and an external micro switch to turn the keyboard light on and off. Smh

Just now tried to install a new OS from a USB, but long story short, though the bios says it's in legacy mode, it is still in UEFI mode. Smh.

I would never waste my money on another Acer product after this experience.

If you're trying to dual boot, you should not try to install the new OS from legacy mode. Jack E/NJ

Yes it took me the whole night to complete my enormous Windows 10 update, which is version 1709. After the update, my laptop runs better, but still it's laggy. The another thing is, even though it's not operating Windows update, it still constantly runs with 100% disk usage, especially when I switch on my laptop. Shutting down and restarting laptop is a very big headache for me too. It takes like forever for it to restart.
What can I do about it? Please help!
p/s: I'm not rich enough to afford another new laptop, it took me almost RM2.6k to buy this laptop, which is a huge amount of money for me, I'm just a student.

As suggested earlier, if you still have any 3rd party virus scanners installed, even if disabled, try uninstalling them. You may have to download a special uninstaller for some in order to get rid of them. Jack E/NJ

How do I update my BIOS system safely?

First check the current BIOS version. Press Windows+R, type “msinfo32” into the Run box, and then hit Enter. The BIOS version number is displayed on the System Summary pane. Look at the “BIOS Version/Date” field.

You need to download, extract and run the application file to update BIOS. Please keep the charger plugged in during BIOS update.
