Aspire T3-710 Solid beep, no boot

Good evening, hopefully you can point me in the right direction. A friend of mine has got me to look at her Aspire T3-710, and from what I've gathered her son tried to install a new video card while the machine was running

The second that I put power to the PC there is a continuous beep and no boot/ black screen. First thing I done was remove the new video card in an attempt to boot via on-board graphics (No good). Checked all leads are connected properly. Remove and re-seat ram (Single 8gb stick). CPU fan is running fine. I've removed the MB battery for several hours, cleared CMOS. Tried ram from a working computer with still no luck. If I pull the 4 pin power from the board there's no solid beep, not that that's relevant I guess.

I'm thinking the board is fried, unless there's anything else you can suggest? Now if a motherboard was a few pennies I'd buy one and try it but unfortunately they seem to make £100 + second hand which is a bit ludicrous. Plus I'd be unlucky enough to do someone a favour and try and fix their computer and end up spending £100 and not fixing it

Is there an equivalent branded board on the market? Any suggestions welcome

The sound indicates a video card and/or a RAM issue, since you've already tried booting without a GPU (assuming you've an integrated GPU) the slot might be trouble. Perhaps you could try taking it to a local shop and test their GPU first and see if the slot is okay before changing the motherboard.

Unfortunately, if the GPU doesn't work there either, you should only be replacing the board completely. A suggestion might be to look for Acer service centers and see if they can help you replace the board itself.

This can cause several issues as far as your hadware is concerned. Freeze up, blown capacitors, transistors, HDD corruption and other permanent hardware failure.

You need to contact a local technician and check the hard disk, memory modules and power supplu unit before chaning the motherboard.

If you determine the mainboard is fried, keep in mind that you have the cost of the new mainboard plus the cost of Windows 10. Your existing Acer OEM Windows 10 license is tied to the potentially fried mainboard. In other words, if you replace the mainboard, you need to buy a new Windows 10 license for around $100 USD in addition to the cost of the replacement mainboard.

If the mainboard is the only problem then you'd be looking at.....

Mainboard $50-$150 USD
Windows license $100 USD
Thermal paste $10 USD

So you're looking at a bare minimum of $160 USD not including tax and shipping if you do it yourself.

The T3-710 uses Intel H110 chipset mainboard, but I don't know what form factor it is. Micro ATX ??? Will Micro ATX fit ??? IDK. I'd have to measure. And you'd probably want a mainboard that has front USB 3.0 header so you can use the front USB ports on the case.

Thanks everyone for the replies. That's an odd shaped board from what I see, typical, and over priced at that. At this stage it may be more sensible to buy a branded H110 board and a cheap case. Plus I don't think the PSU is up to the job now that the kid was trying to fit a large graphics card in there (MSI 750ti from memory)

Could almost buy a new board case and power supply off Amazon for the price of the second hand board, just then a windows licence on top of that. After that fingers crossed the CPU and RAM are OK. I did check a working RAM stick in there with the same results though

I just noticed that your computer probably has DDR3L memory. Most of those branded H110 chipset mainboards are probably DDR4 only.....although I did find one that accepted DDR3L

You're quite right JordanB, glad you spotted this because I presumed it was DDR4 ram. Really strange little board in there

Looks like the Biostar H110MHV3 might be an option, very limited options. Price of ram seems very expensive at the minute, been a while since I've built a pc. I wonder if a micro atx would fit in the case, will have to measure up. Don't have it in front of me, but no doubt it wont fit for some reason or other

I didn't look closely at your Biostar mainboard, but if it doesn't have a place for wifi, you can get a dongle.... if they need Wifi. Maybe they use ethernet so you won't even need wifi.

Just a quick one to update the thread, as I hate seeing troubleshooting threads uncompleted on various forums.

Biostar H110MHV3 fitted, fit's in the original chassis perfect. The only problem I ran into was that the fpanel connector on the Acer chassis was not suitable for the Biostar board. I was able to order a power and reset switch and cable tie them out the back of the case. So he now has a funky but kinda cool way to turn his computer on from now on.

You were correct JoranB in regards to the onboard wifi, had to also order a USB wifi dongle.

So parts and all cost around £70, all brand new, and when you compare that to £100+ for a second hand replacement board this worked out pretty well. No damage to any other components for the exception of the mainboard.

Hopefully this helps someone out there. BTW, need a new windows key, should include that in the price
