Recommended Kingston memory type?

runboy93runboy93 Member Posts: 53 Enthusiast
"KCP" or Hyperx Impact? question in general, people seem to use hyperx impact memory too (even kingston memory finder doesn't show it supported on laptops)

Biggest difference with "KCP" and Hyperx Impact RAM is CL values, could that be reason why KCP is more supported?

Like differences with these DDR4 2133 SO-DIMM RAM:

KCP -> KCP421SS8/8
Hyperx Impact -> HX421S13IB2/8

    In this case if you have 1 free RAM slot, there is no point in installing an expensive RAM with low latency. As the latency of the RAM module in your laptop is 15, then installing a memory with a different latency might or might not work. The BIOS is very restricted and you can't change the latency of the RAM manually, so you have to expect it to be done automatically by the BIOS. That means the RAM with CL13 will be set to CL15 to match the latency of the other module. In order the system to be able to boot all RAM modules should have the same latency, so purchasing a RAM module with lower latency is kind of a waste.
    Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

    Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

    https://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?DeviceType=3&Mfr=ACE&Line=Aspire&Model=96704

    Only "KCP" type memory is there, with CL15 (2133, I have this) or CL17 (2400)

    Why Hyperx Impact (CL13, 2133) is not officially supported?

    The memory type that appears in the search are usually the ones that are tested on the device and work alongside the already installed memory. HyperX doesn't appear there, because it hasn't been tested on this system. It doesn't mean it won't work, but you most likely have to remove the already installed RAM module from your system if it has a different latency than CL13.

    Aspire 3 variants have soldered RAM included (4GB, 2133), and for price point many places in Finland sell them without additional RAM included (free RAM slot), Kingston should included user reported modules, similar Intel does with RAM support for their products.

    Noticed this topic on Lenovo website (not Acer related, but similar question about Hyperx Impact 2133 CL13 RAM)

    Yes! this is answer I wanted to see :)

    It's just funny how currently HyperX Impact CL13 RAM cost around 10 euro less than that KCP 2133 CL15 module in certain shops.
