Acer Nitro AN515-51

hey guys I just got my Nito and so far its awesome, ive been cleaning up some bloatware and stuff on it and doing all the updates since ive only had it for 2 days. I was on the acer product support page, and there are tons of driver updates available so I'm in the process of doing that now. There is a section here the is labeled BIOS and Firmware, although it has a warning saying that it could harm my PC if its not done correctly... now obviously I don't want to harm my new laptop but considering its coming from the Acer website it should be ok no? Has anyone with the same laptop (i5 version) performed these updates without issues? id like my system to be update as best possible but I do not want to damage anything, any guidance would be appreciated! thanks!

Hi,
You don't need to update BIOS unless you have problems with your laptop and know (or someone recommended) that updating BIOS will rectify it. I would suggest you to use the laptop and get familiarise with it without updating BIOS.

ok thanks man i appreciate you helping me out so much! i just wanna make sure my laptop is at its best but it seems as though the version thats on my laptop is the same that was on the website which is odd... and there was an update called "improve pc performance" thats why i was interested in doing these updates, is it really that complicated to do these updates? id like to learn how to do it at some point... maybe ill practice on my old laptop first loool a

Hi,
You are welcome, I take the following steps to update BIOS:
1.Download the zip BIOS file from Acer to Desktop.
2.Extract it to Desktop.
3. Make sure the Battery is fully charged.
4.Disconnect any printers, USB devices etc.
5. Make sure to remove any third party AV programs.
6. Right click the .exe file in the extracted folder and select Run as Admin.
7. Follow the prompts on the screen.
8. Once the update starts, don't touch any buttons and move away from the laptop.
Then cross my fingers.

ok awesome thanks man, you dont do the update from the bios when the computer boots up? also what are AV programs? so basically the bios is updated from the desktop in this method?

You are welcome, I prefer using the Windows flash utility and not familiar with DOS method, Anti Virus Programs such as McAfee or Norton, they normally starts in Windows environment but they are very intrusive, so I disable/ uninstall them, yes Desktop is a convenient place to keep the files in this instance.

Ok awesome thanks man! Is there anyway to find out what the updates for the bios include? Like what was improved in the newer version compared to the old? I was told to check in the bios for the keyboard backlight settings, if they’re not there I was hoping to see if the updates would maybe add a feature to adjust it. Thanks man!
