(G9-793-79V5) Is possible to add a secondary SSD/drive, instead of the DVD drive?

I just got a Predator G9-793(79V5) which has a DVD and a cooler master fan attachment.

Now, since I don't use either; because I have an external Blu Ray burner that can read all the otehr formats; I was wondering if there is a way to re-purpose that slot for a SSD/2.5 drive.

From the connector, it looks like a SATA connector, but can't really tell. Is there an adapter that would allow me to use an extra drive? Seems strange that Acer didn't think about doing something like this, considering that Amazon sell caddy replacement for internal DVD drives, to use them with a SSD.

I can use external drives, no big deal, but on the go, the internal solution would be much better I think.

I just used one of those caddies (I am sure you can get them for a few dollars less on eBay) and a 2TB Seagate HDD. It worked without a hitch. I also ended up buying a replacement faceplate because it doesn't appear like you can remove the one on the DVD drive cleanly (seems like parts snap off rather easily).

This models contain TWO SSD slots and support RAID 0.
It supports 2.5" HDD or SSD 9.5mm / 7.2mm requires HDD cable and HDD carrier.
RAID 0 is only supported with TWO SATA3 SSD cards configuration.

    Thanks for the reply.

So the laptop has space for another SSD? From the tech specs I see that it has a M2 Raid  (2 slots), which host the 2x128 GB M2 drives, which is showing in Windows as 256 GB, and one slot for a regular SATA 2.5 drive (1 TB spinning plate drive).

I did find few caddy for the drive that goes in the DVD slot; although I can't see the plug type. It just say "universal internal DVD plug"; and being probably made in CH, I want to avoid any bad surprise.
Would appreciate some feedback from anyone that used these caddy from Amazon, on the Predator line laptop.

Thanks a lot! I did check those on Ebay but there was no way to figure out if the connector is the same of the drive in the G9-793 or not. Giving it a try, they are pretty cheap so in the worst case it is just a waste of 10 bucks or so.

Let's go by logic; if I did find a post like you say, that was here and that was referring to this specific model, and that was giving an answer, would I waste my time posting here?

There are other posts about use the external caddy, true; but the issue here is "does it work with this specific model?" I had no way to find out, so I had to ask to the ones that knows more than me on that.

On top of that, my time is very valuable; and I would never waste it, reading a post that I don't care about, or not willing to give a hand with;and even less, to post something like "search on google"'. That's why I don't get why you love to waste time, not only reading "the same ****" as you said, but even replying something that does not add anything.

Your time, not mine, that is fine; but don't make it sound like you did a favor to anyone, posting something like this. If you have nothing nice to say, just don't say anything...as simple as that.

Thanks; there is indeed a second M2 slot, but by factory they made it as Raid; so you get 2 smaller drives in it, unless you ask for an upgrade (which I didn't because they charge you an arm and a leg for a single bigger M2 usually; compared to buy it on your own later on). That would be a way; but a 2 TB spinning SATA drive cost almost the same as a M2 512 GB; which is why I did prefer the caddy option.

I don't even have need for the optical drive, because I use an external one; so that space feels more useful if used as extra HD; at least until the M2 drives do not go down in price.

@Phoenix1966 just wanted to ask if where you got the faceplate? I tried looking for it in ebay and amazon and wasn't able to find any?

I got as far as finding a whole assembly which would cost you $69.99 (optical drive and faceplate) here:

(Posting this in case it can be helpful for some)

    Appreciate it and thanks!

I purchased it on eBay at the beginning of February. Here is one from the same seller.
