Sound issue Predator 17x GX-792

Hi everyone.

I have an issue with the sound on my brand new 17X GX-792. The sound is normal when watching youtube and listening to music. Once I run Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, a constant crackling background noise comes on. The crackling noise starts once I open the game, when in the lobby and when ingame. I have tried with and without a headset, checked the cable and so forth - the noise still persists. Funny is, the frequency of the crackling sound changes when I choose different graphic settings, i.e. from very low, to low and further on to high and ultra. It seems to me that this crackling sounds starts when the CPU and GPU is under heavier loads..

Anyone else experiencing this background noise? I have tried reinstalling PUBG, and that didnt help either. However, I have not tried any other games.

You need to locate where the sound is comming from. If the noise comes from speaker/s, then it is likely to the a similar or same case as the one from this thread. If it comes from the laptop, the area around the 'enter' key, then it most likely is a coil whine. Sometimes the noise from coil whining, can change pitch and sound depending on your fps or what is displayed.

You can aslo try resetting the battery, it may make it disappear. Follow the instructions from the site of how to do a reset.

The sound seems to be coming from around the enter key, as you said. I read the other thread, but I couldnt find a solution from that one.. Any idea what to do? I just bought the computer yesterday and I am not to keen sending it to service..

It is a coil whining if it comes from around the enter key and it is from the GPU. I also have gx-792 and it has coil whine since day 1. The only way to reduce the noise is to reduce the fps by enabling v-sync, which will cap your framerate to 60fps(if you are with a 4k screen) or 75fps(if you are with the FHD screen).

It won't necessarily make it disappear, but there is a small possibility for it to work. Battery reset lets the electricity that has been building up(sometimes this can cause bugs or other issues) in the components to discharge. As the issue is coil whine, battery reset won't help, unfortunately.

You can also view this thread. It seems many of us have this issue and no solution other than to send it in for service appears to be an option.

If you've only just bought the laptop, I would return it for another if you don't want to send it in.

In a way, you're almost lucky to have the opportunity to catch this issue early in your ownership of the laptop...many of us waited close to a year to find out the device was defective and are now trying to get things resolved at a point when it is either an outright pain in the *asterisk* to send it in or not feasible at all (those out of country). I hate to say this, as I've really loved my Predator laptop until the sound issue started, but I agree with Phoenix in the comment above...return it immediately. I'd even go so far as to advise you to review the threads/posts on this forum carefully before you make the decision to replace it with an identical device.
