Acer Aspire E5-576G-5762 has noticeable FPS drops when plugged in

This is the 15.6” with the i5-8250U and MX150. While using the laptop plugged in, I’m getting FPS drops in Rainbow Six Siege, Team Fortress 2, and Overwatch.

I checked for thermal throttling and that was never an issue. The games would run at 15-30 FPS would plugged in and well over 60 when on battery. I’ve tested with multiple settings regarding adjusting the brightness, CPU settings, fan settings, and adjusting the battery saving mode (as well as turning it off) as well as using the default settings and nothing seems to fix this recurring issue. I’ve also checked for driver updates and have tried restarting the computer to no avail. If anyone has any experience with this, could you please explain if you managed to fix it and how?

I ran into the same problem as you and I managed to fix it by updating the bios. Hopefully it works for you as well.

I'm having similar problems with this same laptop. Got it for my son to play fortnite because it has a dedicated graphic card. However the game uses up a fully-charged battery in about 1hr and 15min. Then he plugs it in and the game slows down and becomes less responsive. There is no good reason for this to be happening and it seems to be a defect of the computer. Yes, I upgraded the BIOS to version 1.47 right away, so this does not fix problem. Since many people are buying this computer for entry level gaming, Acer needs to fix this problem and let users know about it.

@Victor151 Battery must be near full charge AND plugged in. Not near full discharge THEN plugged in. The charger simply can't keep up with charging a near fully-depleted battery and playing a game full tilt at the same time. Jack E/NJ

Can you explain to me how any computer that claims to have gaming capacity would be unable to play games when plugged in and below 40% battery?

You call that a near fully-depleted battery?

That's so fricking absurd, it makes me want to throw away my computer. I spent $600 on this laptop and cannot play video games if I forget to plug in my laptop and it falls below FOURTY percent battery.

Battery must be near 100% charged and charger plugged in for max game time on laptops. If you want more game time, then get a bigger power adapter if available for your model to keep up with the load. These are gaming laptops, not fullbore gaming desktops. Jack E/NJ

Following up on this UNanswered question, the Acer laptop still does not work with Fortnite. It gets a pathetic 1 or 2 frames per second. If charged fully to 100% AND plugged in, it get 6 fps. The computer shows that the CPU is 100% occupied by game, but GPU is 0% (this info from Windows game bar "Win+g"). In other words this laptop is not even using its graphics card! Solutions???

Check the advanced settings in your power plan. Try maximum and mininum processor states are set to 100% on both battery and plugged in to see what happens. Jack E/NJ
